1 more sleep until I'm home. OMG today is dragging so badly and it's only 9am here. I thought I'd kill a few minutes by posting on here. It's a holiday here in Canada today (not sure about the US) so there's no one working except our group. That means no phone calls, no emails, etc. So it had made for a very long weekend. All I do is think about how much I could be doing if I was at home.
Not much to report today. It's cooled off significantly here over the past few days (it's currently 12C/53.6F) but when I get home it's supposed to spike right back up to (36C/96.8F) so that should be interesting lol
I'm looking forward to getting home to go shopping to see what kind of low carb items I can find and try out some recipes. I'm still really dedicated to this way of eating.
I hope everyone has a fantastic Monday!

completely expected. last week I couldn't keep anything in after my colonoscopy. Getting better every day - not having quite the issues I was. As I said in the previous thread - meal plan for the week complete. I do need to stop at Costco on my way home and see if they have any berries that are decent. The grocery store's were quite yucky.

Kelly - I hate when it's a holiday or almost holiday and everyone stops calling and sending stuff (unless I have projects backed up to focus on). Makes the day go by so slow. Hoping you find something to keep yourself occupied and speed up time. Are you able to surf the web and start working on menu plans? Brrrr..53 is cold... Wow what a huge temp variance for you from home to work. crazy. We're to be over 110 (43c) today. And it's been so humid...that's been the worst.

Sarah - I haven't tried logging food in quite a while...I need to get on that.

Early this morning, I could not access any days on the food diary, but I just checked a few moments ago, and I was able to access today and at least as far back as Thursday. Yeah!!!

The problem is that what I entered for Thursday is now missing (I think I had entered everything but dinner), and now I can't even remember what I had for dinner that day. And neither can hubby! Having a day that I don't log messes up the records that you can extract because it adds in zeros. That makes it look like I ate less than I did and almost makes the nutrient percentages inaccurate. For a person who lives and breathes scientific data that must be spot on, this really messes with my head. LOL

Kelly, it is not a holiday here. Wish it was. Our next holiday is Labor Day, the 3rd of September. Honestly--Labor Day already? With all this rain, it hardly seems like we've had any summer at all. Although I have to say that there was something oddly entertaining about the downpours we had on Friday night. The rain stayed on the window screens so you could not really see out. It was like being in some kind of abstract painting when you looked out at the streets lights and houses in the distance.

Lois, I like Costco's produce, too. They usually have good berries in this area, and I think they still have some Washington sweet cherries, which are my absolute favorite fruit. smile:

My weekend was really nice. And, yes, I was able to stay on track with my Keto. . just had a BIG burger (BIL has a Traeger smoker, and it was delish) no bun, greek salad (mostly green with feta cheese and dressing) AND I had vodka with club soda and lime wedges. No desert cuz I didn't want it. I got on the scale this morning, and it's looking good. Weigh-in day is Wednesday.

Kelly, you're right, I feel more satisfied and can go longer between meals, have plenty of energy. I hope my body doesn't "adjust" any time soon. I plan to keep going with Keto. Keep in mind that water weight is dumped first . . we'll get into serious fat burning in a week or so. Check into a Youtube video that's "Keto and Costco" or something . . I don't know if you have Costco or not, but it gives you good ideas for grocery shopping. I've been watching Youtube videos about Keto too. You could pass time doing that today, lol! Safe trip home tomorrow. Keep in touch! BTW, I still haven't been accepted into the Facebook group. I'm getting a complex, haha!

Lois, I wish I was more organized at meals like you. I feel like I just kinda go a couple days at a time. I need to be better at planning and prep. I hope you get feeling better after that test. They are not fun. I think I'm due for my next one in a year or two. Yuk. Is your MIL still with you? When she's there, does she help with cooking? I was wondering about that. It might be nice to have a "cook" staying with us :D Have you ever bought the Costco frozen organic blueberries? I love those, and they keep longer than fresh berries.

Sarah, the logging issue is a headache. I haven't had that issue, but I hope they figure it out soon. And, man, Comcast and Verizon and ALL those companies are such a pain! I say, go to the pool!

Oh yes.. I search the web. A lot on the weekends lol I have minimal work as I basically and just here for when someone needs help, but I am really good at finding work to keep myself busy. Most of the time I'm doing work that's completely out of the scope of my job, but I don't care because it helps pass the time and everyone appreciates it. I have watched a ton of You Tube videos on Keto and I have watched a bunch of the grocery shopping ones to get an idea of what to buy. A lot of the videos are American and I don't think we get the same stuff as you do at Costco, but I made a list and I plan to look.

I have come to realize that I am not a meal planner. My life is pretty well organized and planned, however I hate meal planning. I'd rather just have healthy options available in the house and decide what I feel like that day because I'm a girl and I often change my mind lol It's kind of like clothes for me. I can lay out my clothes as much as I want the day before, but chances are that I'm not going to like it the next day or want to wear it. That's just me. Maybe someday I'll get into meal planning, but for now just doing the low carb is a good enough change for me! I did a 30 minutes work out video last night (Core De Force). I would like to say that I'm going to keep going with it for 30 days but we'll have to see how that works out. I'm going to try do the day 2 videos tonight after work.

Sheesh, great job on staying with the Keto for the BBQ! Sounds delicious. And yep, I'm fairly positive most of the weight loss I've had is water weight but I'll take it! :D

I'll do my best to stay in touch while I'm at home!

The food diary seems to be working! I have lost Thursday forever but at least I wrote down Friday-Tuesday. I know that you keto ladies are going to make me so jealous tomorrow at weigh-in. I am trying to make the kinds of changes that worked in 2010, i.e., eat all food groups but watch things like butter and sugar--and portions. And I guess I'll have to break up with Ben and Jerry! LOL

Small difference but at least in the correct direction. We ate dinner at 10 p.m. last night so I'm surprised it's not higher.

Lois, Hubby made his first meal in his new Instant Pot last night, and it took soooo long. Not the cooking, but the prep and his going back again and again to the instruction book. He did probably an hour of prep before we dashed out to attend a community meeting last evening. We got back and I had to work for another an hour on something that came in late from our Branch Chief. When I got through, he was still working on dinner! Instant? Not with a novice!

It was, by the way, chicken marsala made with boneless chicken thighs. I was shocked that one thigh with sauce was more than 400 calories, so I had one thigh with only a tiny bit of sauce, and I passed on the rice.

This weekend we are attending a bar-b-que and crab feast to welcome back a friend who had a bad motorcycle accident in Florida and was down there in a hospital for several months. I know how much food is at these events, so I'm planning ahead for what I can eat. I wish I enjoyed these types of gatherings more. I'm a small gathering kind of gal, but hubby enjoys these bigger outings, so off we'll go.

Sarah - half of a pound is a great reduction - especially with dinner later in the evening! yay for the diary working again!

FYI - Instant Pot isn't instant cooking - it's pressure cooking. It cooks without having to stand over and watch and stir. But the prepping, chopping and getting used to new recipes does have a learning curve. That's why I love the bootcamps. HOWEVER, there have been a couple of times, I whipped up a lasagna or a taco pie in very little time. BTW, I've learned to chop all of my onions and peppers when I buy them and pop them in the freezer - then they are ready to dump in or measure and scoop for a recipe. (This would help with stove top as well), but you can cook pork shoulder or chuck roast in 90 minutes plus the time to come to pressure (about another 30 mins or so). I also keep ziplocs of 1lb browned ground beef in the freezer - I'm hooked on the korean ground beef bilgogi and rice in a separate pot on top of the beef - that just takes a few to pop in the IP press 5 mins and head around house, get a ride in or watch tv or work on a project. Risotto without constant stirring - yep - it does that too. I remember the learning curve did take me quite a bit to understand, but once it clicked with my brain - bam - I was in heaven with it. Good luck!

Sheesh and Kelly - I'm anxiously waiting for your posts! Rah Rah Rah - cheering you both on!

Damn, I'm happy! I know, I know. Mostly water the first week, and as soon as I eat carbs or sugar again . . . hello 5 lbs. :/ But, so far it's working great, and I plan to keep it up as long as it's working. I feel good and my meals satisfy me, and I don't get hungry an hour later. The last day or two, I've been taking care of hubby who's under the weather. So, other than working out with my trainer Monday and walking too, my activity has really been minimal, just walking around the house.

Sarah, congrats on your reduction :) It sounds like the Instant Pot takes some getting used to, but at least your hubby cooks, right? I'm sure he'll get up to speed with it very quickly. Glad you got MFP to work for you again. You're so good to keep up logging.

Lois, I've never frozen chopped veggies before . . I don't know why. I guess I never thought of it. Do the onions taste as good? Do you put them in ziplocs? Duh. I feel so dumb. That's a great idea. I'm kind of like Kelly . . I might not want the whole meal planned and done because I might not feel like eating them, and I'm afraid they might be wasted. But, having chopped onions and peppers ahead is fantastic. I have a trick I like . . I buy a couple fresh lemons, wash and dry them, put them into a ziploc whole and freeze. I'll take one out and zest or grate it onto fish or chicken (still frozen and very cold on the hands so use towel to hold) as it's grilling or baking, along with other seasonings. Yum.

Kelly, hope you'll check in when at home if you have time. I love the Keto videos. . hope it keeps working for you. How is the house coming along?

CONGRATS SHEESH!!!!! Stick with it and I hope hubby feels better quickly. Sick men are no fun...hahaha.

And yes, the veggies freeze well for cooking (I haven't tried them raw). I have a plastic container with all of the ziplocs that have the chopped veggies in them (I roll them and stand them upright....somehow easier to see. I had read you can freeze whole lemons but wasn't sure. Didn't know anyone personally that did and didn't want to risk it. That is awesome to know! And that's what I loved about the meal prep bootcamp. You could pull out any meal you wanted, you didn't have to know when you were going to eat, just something you'd be interested in eating some night. I used those meals mainly on nights or for lunches when I didn't have our normal rotation ready. I was looking at something and it was a year ago I had done it and I swear I had food for several months at the ready.

Great job this week ladies! My weigh in day is tomorrow so I'll be back to post.
We're busy this week with the National Ball Hockey tournament that Shawn is in. It's such an intense sport. So much talent. I'm sure you've never heard of it before but it's basically ice hockey without skates. They run on the concrete in the arena instead. They wear helmets, jocks, jerseys, shin pads, hockey socks and runners for equipment but that's it. It's a non contact sport but there still ends up being a ton of contact. Their team is 2-0 so far and play again today.
I've found that I'm mostly doing lazy keto / low carb. I don't follow ALL of the rules of keto but my intention with this is to make it a lifestyle and not just a quick fix. I'm feeling great so far and the weigh is coming off pretty quickly.
    Chat tomorrow

Can I just say that I'm tired of work stress? Something is up and there's a meeting being called at 10 a.m. tomorrow and they are giving us no information about what it's about. So I took a break to pop in here for a moment. I sometimes make things worse by worrying in advance. :/

Sheesh, I just got through a bout of "hubby illness." Mine had a bad summer cold. Hope your's gets better soon. I get frustrated because mine is either in pain or having some kind of issues too much of the time. I keep telling him that he's 2 years younger than me and should be 2 years healthier than me, but that isn't always how it works.

We had sun during the day yesterday but storms in the evening, so I ended up on the dreadmill last night. I didn't get down there soon enough to get in 10,000 steps. I got caught up in some household tasks and watching part of the game.

Looking forward to hearing how Kelly is doing when she weighs in tomorrow.

Lois, I hope that things are running a little more smoothly at your work and that having your MIL in residence is not too stressful. No matter who it is, it's different when there's an extra person in the house.

Woah! Woot woot!! I don't have a ton of time to post but wanted to for sure weigh in. I'm so pleasantly surprised! Going lower carb has really helped me in so many ways.

Sarah- good luck with your meeting today! Maybe it's something positive!! Keep us posted if you can.

Good for you Kelly. What a boost this must be. I know that even a little progress get me out in a better frame of mind, so 3.5 pounds should have you humming!

I am still struggling to get activity in. My walking buddy is not able to walk again until after August 25. Got that message yesterday. (Sigh) And life is throwing me some extra things to handle in the evenings. In the past two weeks, we have had three friends lose parents, so last night, I got up from my desk and quickly dressed to go to a wake. We got home at 10 and I had a message from work. We had connection issues yesterday due to flooding the night before on the CDC campus, and something I sent out that is needed over the weekend was not received. And to complicate matters, my manager called my home phone line because it was after 5 (although I work until 6!), and the home phone has not worked in more than a week because Comcast cut Verizon's line. But we learned that people calling just get voice mail and not a "not working" message. So long story short, I had trouble getting into the network and my manager was not answering her phone, so I futzed with that for over an hour, had an Atkins microwave dinner, and then suddenly my fitbit was turning over to zero!

We're expecting--wait for it--more rain this weekend. :s There may be a short window this afternoon, though, that will allow us a little time at the pool.

My poor friends who are hosting the party tomorrow cannot call it off because they have a company coming to do Maryland steamed crabs, and they've already ordered crabs for 42 people! So they've rented tents (the kind without sides) and thankfully have a back yard big enough for three of them. So we will be picking crabs in the rain, if it comes to that! LOL

Well, it's time to pay a few bills and get something to eat. Although I'm not following a keto diet, you ladies have inspired me watch my carbs a bit, and so I have had no sweets since last Sunday. I do hope the scale will move a little. Everyone is bringing side dishes or desserts tomorrow, so I'm trying to think of something healthy I can take that others will enjoy. Hubby is lobbying for a wild rice with fruit salad. Maybe.

P.S. Kelly the meeting was about training someone to provide me backup when I'm away. My only backup is a federal staff member, and they no longer allow feds to back up contractors. We can do their jobs and back them up, but not in reverse. WHAT????? I have worked with no backup for the past 18 years, and now I have to train some person to answer questions about topics they know nothing about. Okay. I can do that. Sure. :p

Congratulations Kelly! Wow . . 3.4 lbs is a lot! I'm really liking Keto because it's so easy and I'm not hungry. Hubby has his sweets at night, and I have no problem resisting. However, I did order (Amazon) some Choc Zero Keto Bark (Almond) just so I don't get feeling too sorry for myself . . wow, it's good! A box comes with six individually wrapped servings so I don't go overboard. 120 cal, 2 net carbs. Yum.

Sarah, what a joke having to train someone to back you up. In your job, does it seem like the current federal administration is more inept? Or about the same?

I wish we could get some of your rain. We have smoke from the fires in California and here. The West is burning up, the East is getting drenched, and the ice caps are melting. :/ Hubby is going to Alaska in early September again. Last year he said he noticed a big difference in the weather and general climate there, and the size of the glaciers seen from the airplane. It will be interesting to find out what he sees this year.

Good luck with staying on track tomorrow at the party. I took a Greek salad to the Bar-B-Q I went to and that gave me a good option along with a generous sized smoked burger with cheese and onion (no bun or ketchup) and vodka with club soda and lime. I felt satisfied. I hope it doesn't rain on you.

Lois, hope you're having a good weekend, feeling well, and staying focused. Post soon.

I'm going to a baseball game tonight :) They're going to have a fireworks show after, although I don't know why with all the smoke .. duh. But, it should be fun. I'm planning to have a hot dog with mustard only, no bun. No beer :'( which makes me feel very deprived at a baseball game, so I'm going to have my vodka soda with lime before we leave. (Hubby driving.) Also, going to eat some before we go. I hope it works. I hope you all don't think I'm an alcoholic, lol! I promise I haven't had any since last Saturday, and I usually only have one or two when I do drink. :p

Woot woot Kelly!!!! What progess!!!stay focused.

Sarah I'm feeling for you. We've had so many monsoon storms in the evening. The neighborhoods have lost so many trees and power lines. We got hit pretty hard the other night again and we lost two huge branches off of our ironwood tree. So bummed. And the humidity is ridiculous. Remember we're usually a dry oven. Baking style. Feels like we're back east right now.

Crab yum!!! Hope you don't get rained on and enjoy!! We were supposed to go out for my birthday crab but hubby got home too late and he's wiped out. Next week

Lazy Saturday. I have no energy to do anything. I did my shopping today and started some of my Sunday meal prep. But mainly just idle.

We got poured on, Lois, but fortunately, there was not a lot of wind, so they tents stayed up and we didn't get wet sitting under them. And the rain is actually preferable to muggy heat! And today, we'll get more rain--oh, goody! Sheesh, I had no idea that the smoke is getting as far east as you. Wish I could send some of this rain to Cali to put out those fires. It's heartbreaking.

And mentioning heartbreaking, we taped and watched the game last night. I could not believe we entered the 9th inning ahead 3 to 0, and our closer hit two batters, which loaded the bases, and then a Cub hit a home run. So it was a walk off 4-3 win. The Nats can't get a break. Both of our regular closers are on the DL. Got me so riled, that between work (more later) and that, I went to sleep around 1:30 and woke up stock staring awake at 4:30. (groan)

Well, back to work. Will check in again later.

Sarah, that's too bad about the Nats. SF is not doing well this year either, and my Bees (AAA) blew a lead to lose 3 - 4. But, it looks like they will make the playoffs, so more baseball! :)

I hope your rain lets up.
