It's merely eating more than bare minimum - in order that workouts have max benefits (as you can get in a deficit anyway).
But still eating less than you burn to lose fat.
But that's an awfully long title and doesn't have the grab factor.
So the evidence is every single study that shows weight loss when you eat less than you burn.
The macro suggestions is merely to get protein up there by an easy way, needed or not, to perhaps add to the benefict.
