Macros

Hey all!

I'm about a week and half into Paleo and so far so good. While looking at my macros, I see that my fat content is a lot higher. I'm wondering if that's normal. My diary is open so you guys can check it out and see if there's any adjusting I can do to fix this.

Thank you!

I think I have my fat set at 55%. It's been a couple weeks since I re-set my macros. Another who posts here likes to say that a minimum of 60% is ideal. I have my protein set according to Mark Sisson's recommendations, carbs at 75g per day (halfway between the 50-100 that he calls the "sweet spot" for weight loss, and protein set in relation to my lean body mass (I forget the formula, is it .7 to 1 g per lb of lean body mass?).

    This.

And yes, if you're not specifically going for carbs (such as an endurance athlete), then your carb number will be lower, and as a result, your fat will be higher.

No, this is not a bad thing.

Oh goodness, please modify the macros!!! MFP defaults are ridiculously high for carbs and insanely low for fat. I would recommend a minimum of 60% fat-I believe MFP is set for 30%.

My macros are 75 fat, 20 protein, and 5 carb. For my specific health issues, that works best for me.

So yes, fix it; not by eating less fat but increasing your fat macro setting substantially. :flowerforyou:

Paleo diets transition our body to burn fat for energy rather than carbs. Its why people on a paleo diet often lose fat quickly.

I am having some other digestive issues that are precluding me from losing fat, but its pretty typical for people without significant digestive disorders to quickly lose belly fat when they replace all their carbs with fat! It sounds counterintuitive but its very happily true! http://www.marksdailyapple.com/a-metabolic-paradigm-shift-fat-carbs-human-body-metabolism/#axzz2bZCdKP3x

My current ratio is about 60% fat, 10% carbs, 30% protein - experiment though. Change your ratio, and leave it for a week and see what happens. Find what combo is the most efficient for you. Its different for everyone.
