We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for August are:
Monday - Imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday - Jerdtrmndone (Jerry)
Wednesday - minimyzeme (Kim)
Thursday - goldenfrisbee (Chris)
Friday - misterhub (Greg)
Today's topic: As you are LTL and In between weekly weigh in's are you more motivated to stay on track from your fear of gain as in significant gain? of weight or are you truly in a habit of eating properly week by week.

I weight everyday so as I began to gain weight little by little last year in the spring I let it get away from me. I'm not sure what I was thinking or whether I was desensitized with a daily weight in. I do know when I started WW many years ago actually fall of 2010 I really started with the fear that I just could not gain another oz. I kept that attitude of fear to gain another oz at that time and stick strictly to the program and continued day to day doing the things it takes to lose weight. At that time I was motivated more by the fear of gain than any lifestyle change which I hadn't developed at that time. It was months later that a habit developed and I began to get into an eating habit that both helped me to lose weight and truly begin to eat on a daily basis that I could live with or more balanced.
Fast forward and WW has changed their program majorly on at least a couple of times and this last time seemed to be more of an Atkins diet than WW. I still wanted to eat a sweet or two along but found on their current system that sweets were all but off bounds along with Carbs. Not really disgruntled but more like my routine had been shifted and the program I thought was working no longer seemed to attract me hence I moved more to the caloric intake plus sought some outside advice as in therapy.
So to sum up my habit or what I thought was a habit seemed to be no more and I got off track and still struggle with the habit part. It's not the diet or WW fault or the MFP program of caloric intakes fault it's my fault clear and plain.
So a decision has to be made to get back in the saddle and follow a program that I feel will assist me in my daily routine of balance between diet and Living The Life Style.

I am motivated by weight loss. If I lose, I want to lose more. So, it is very motivating to remain true to eating what I know will help me lose more weight.0

I weigh myself every morning when I'm home. Once a week is too infrequent for me. I use the Happy Scale app to watch the trends. That trendline is much more valuable than any day to day flucuation.0

If I didn’t have a scale or access to a scale, I’d gain. Don’t think I’d gain much at first, but with enough time, the gains would compound.
I bet I could rationalize away 25 lbs or more. I don’t wear suits anymore. I’d have to have clothes just not fit to get my attention. Not sure what that would be. I’m 95% shorts and tee shirts.0 -

For me, it's a combination. I'm not paralyzed by the thought of gaining a few pounds relative to the 80 I lost. I am genuinely fearful of using that as an excuse to slide backwards though so I fear the potential for "cumulative effects" as it relates to significant weight gain.
I've gotten pretty good (but not perfect) about eating mostly properly / healthier most of the time. That is my primary guidance. But for a few occasional exceptions, I'm not lead astray by foodlust back to my old choices. I'm enjoying the benefits of life in a smaller body enough that I'm willing to make the tradeoffs necessary to continue the journey for at least one more day.0 -

Derrick, @imastar2 , I have to wonder whether if you went back to the WW Points Plus system, whether it might help you overcome your current challenge. Your body won't know what WW plan it's "supposed" to be on but if that was the one that offered you the best likelihood of success while still incorporating the structure with flexibility you need, maybe it's a viable option. I know I've read that apps are still out there with PP points / converters. Hang in there my friend!0
