We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for August are:
Monday - Imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday - Jerdtrmndone (Jerry)
Wednesday - minimyzeme (Kim)
Thursday - goldenfrisbee (Chris)
Friday - misterhub (Greg)
Today's topic: Holiday(s) Is no coincidence that today's topic is Holidays since today is Labor Day.
1. Which holiday do you splurge if any over the others or which might be your favorite holiday as far as food is concerned.
2. If you do overeat can you jump back on track the next day?
3.Are holidays just another day in your LTL journey?

They say confession is good for the soul. ( I heard it somewhere don't know where it came from.) I tend to overeat at most holidays. What I call the main holidays and there are about six. It may depend on the day of the week they fall and as to how I feel about just plain overeating. It can also depend on where I fall with my attitude that particular holiday.
2. If you do overeat can you jump back on track the next day?
I do generally jump right back on track. For me it is literally dangerous to not get right back on tract the next day. I know myself all too well and to continue onward with overeating the next day might lead to disastrous results.
3.Are holidays just another day in your LTL journey?
In a way these holidays are another day in my weight journey because if I plan for them and indulge in a way that for me is not bad then I get to have my cake and eat it to.
Happy Labor Day !

Christmas Day is generally the holiday I tend to not be too concerned about. I do try to practice intentional portion control.
2. If you do overeat can you jump back on track the next day?
Yes, usually
3.Are holidays just another day in your LTL journey?
I think holidays are part of living and need to be part of my LTL journey. Same with celebrations. How you handle them is the "Living" part. They happen, they will keep happening. It wouldn't be much of a lifestyle if they were always days of denial. But they don't need to be days of do whatever, whenever either.0 -

Fourth of July is when we always celebrate out daughter's birthday (as she was born on the 3rd). Usually a big cookout bash.
Another problem for me is the "3 day weekend, which with Friday being weigh-in day, becomes a 4 day weekend.
2. If you do overeat can you jump back on track the next day?
Yes, usually I rein it the next day.

Since we don’t have longstanding traditions for most holidays, it really depends on what we’re doing that particular holiday or year. Although there is no doubt that, because I tend to be a mindless eater, I am much more purposely mindful between Thanksgiving and Christmas when treats and splurges abound. So much more so that I actually struggle more in January after I’ve let my holiday guard down.

Really only thanksgiving for eating too much.0

Thanksgiving. Even when relentlessly tracking, I ate the pumpkin pie whip cream and all, and never counted it. I just couldn’t make it work. I wasn’t going to spend an entire week focused on that one piece of pie.
2. If you do overeat can you jump back on track the next day?
Back on. I never really considered myself off though.
3.Are holidays just another day in your LTL journey?
Generally just another day. But I’ve come to think of the entire period Halloween through Easter/Passover as Eating Season. (When did Halloween become a holiday? Someone please tell me.) I try not to get caught in the wave.0 -

I guess it would have to be Thanksgiving or Christmas. Those have always been good food holidays for me. Anything where homemade pie is involved is alright in my book.
2. If you do overeat can you jump back on track the next day?
Usually, I can. If I'm with company or family, there might be somewhat of a delayed entry back onto my plan. However, my plan is to be on-plan about 90% of the time. The rest is for celebrations and spontaneity because what's the point if we can't still enjoy those things once in a while?
3.Are holidays just another day in your LTL journey?
Pretty much, although as I've spent more time with friends or my siblings and their families over the years, they've become a little "weightier" food-wise.0 -
1. Which holiday do you splurge if any over the others or which might be your favorite holiday as far as food is concerned. ... Probably Christmas. Lots if appetizers and desserts that i only see once a year, though the appetizers give me the most trouble. Esp the ones where the 'meal' is all apps.
2. If you do overeat can you jump back on track the next day? ... Yes, usually at least. Most likely if it's just one day, not a run of eating events.
3.Are holidays just another day in your LTL journey? ... Nope! Always a challenge that requires planning to be successful.

I splurge at Thanksgiving. It's my favorite holiday. Period. But, I am able to get things back on track pretty quickly.1
