Hello all! First to introduce myself, my name is Steve. I am a 40y/o male 5’8” and 265lbs. I have been doing Keto for exactly 4 weeks and have been very strict and counting macros. I am intermittent fasting 6:18. I have also been drinking over 100oz of water per day. I am at 1850 calories and am pretty closely hitting my macros 70-75% fat; 20-25% protein; and 5% carbs. I am between 20-30 total carbs per day and usually at or below 20 net carbs. So, my question is in regards to ketosis. I am testing my blood on a regular basis and am usually between 0.6-0.9 ketones. Highest i have hit is 1.1 ketones. I can not seem to break into the optimal range of 1.5 to 3.0. What’s going on and what should i change? Any suggestions? I am losing weight (16lbs in 4 weeks) and cloths are fitting better but can’t get to optimal ketosis.

I am not that strict, I say if you are losing don't fret over it. Keep up the good work.0

I don't log or count but aim for about <50g daily. My food is well within that but my half bottle of wine at night puts a dent in my budget. I don't meter or check for ketones but when I am in I can taste it so it is a very cheap meter. I guess I go in and out but probably stay closer to ketosis even when out. I keep losing and the beer gut is shrinking so I plan on staying on what I nickname "Free Range Keto". I really enjoy not counting out my foods. If in doubt I just check the carbs count on the label. So I say if its working for you just stay the course.1
