We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for September are:
Monday - Imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday - savignr (Bob)
Wednesday - 88olds (George)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - Jimb376mfp (Jim)
Today's topic: The Mirror; we've discussed this on occassions.
Can the mirror talk? If so what does it say to you. Does it make you happy ? Or discust you or motivate you? After all it is just a reflection of what is happening or where we are.

The mirror tells me that I'm not 28 any more. It mostly frustrates me to see the loose skin caused by large weight swings over my lifetime. I certainly look better in clothing than without, that's for sure.0

M---,M--- on the wall etc? Uh not saying I am 18 y/o, buff when nekkkid etc? Then again it says good things when I am dressed up0

The mirror makes me look heaver than how I feel. Don't get me wrong I need to lose.0

The mirror is honest. Sometimes I am cool with that. Other times...I want to drape black cloth over it.

I don’t like the mirror except when I’m exercising and need to check my form.0

It's never my friend if I'm naked. Never.

The mirror is for the neck up for only for me!. I want to throw u** when I look in the mirror unclothed. So it's no friend of mine and hasn't been a friend for a long long time. Disgusted? Can the mirror talk? I'm not disgusted but yes the mirror does talk to me It talks to me an says you are still too fat.!

All of the above. I think the mirror truly reflects me, but is subject to the emotions (if any) that I'm feeling at the time.
Some days, if I'm feeling pretty good, it's my friend and is even somewhat complimentary. Those are days that I can appreciate that I'm no sculpted model, but I'm far better off than where I started. I can give myself an approving nod when I see myself in the mirror on those days. I might even smile at the reflection.
If I'm depressed or lethargic when I happen to look in the mirror, I tend to see more flaws than anything, despite the weight loss. Still have the stomach pooch. Still not toned. Still self-deprecating. While it doesn't disgust me, looking in the mirror does me no favors on those days. In fact, it tends to drag me down even further.0
