Mateuss is a horse prodigy. I've had him just under a month, had him in training for two full weeks, and just started teaching him to stretch his neck down under saddle last week and ridden him twice since then. Well I longed him tonight and he stretched his head down once to sniff so I praised the crap out of him. The next thing I know he's doing complete circles stretching his neck down and holding it there as long as he can! He's not very conditioned so I know he was really working hard.

I've never seen a horse make a connection that quickly and I'm certainly not a trainer.

They are truly amazing!

That is awesome. I am lucky I have a really wonderful girl who is so tuned into me that when she does something I generally have to ask myself what my body language just told her. Horses are the most sensitive and amazing creatures.

She has however had major issues over the summer. We were progressing well in our dressage training and she started to have issues with flipping her head around. She was stressed, wouldn't focus, and couldn't work. I haven't been on her for more than 10 minutes since March because she just is not herself. She'd been evaluated by 2 veterinarians (one a surgery/lameness specialist) and a chiropractor. Nothing helped. Tests for Lyme, Vit E, Selenium, EPM, muscle disorders and no answers. Finally decided to try to find her a retirement home as I really want to ride, and can't afford 2 horses.

Well, a week ago Sunday, she finally went lame. So the specialist and a 3rd vet got to work on her. So with a lameness evaluation, and hock x-rays and we have an answer. She got her hocks injected yesterday. Today she is a different horse. Turned her out in the pasture and she did 2 laps at speed. I haven't seen her move faster than a walk of her own volition in forever. She's relaxed, comfortable, her ears and eyes are soft. All the tension is gone from her mouth. She came looking for me at the pasture gate tonight when I came out. I can't wait to put her back into work Saturday and see how things go. I really was expecting the worst once she went lame enough to figure out what was wrong.

I am so looking forward to our partnership growing again.
