We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for September are:

Monday - Imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday - savignr (Bob)
Wednesday - 88olds (George)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - Jimb376mfp (Jim)

Today's topic: Post-Op Surgery Weight Maintenance Program.

Makes it personal for my pending pinch nerve fusion surgery next week. If you have recovered from surgery how did you do LTL post surgery?

Any tips /advice?

I try to eat balanced healthy meals to aid in healing. I have done ok after time in the hospital recovering. Being less active I probably ate a bit less but concentrated on the nutrition.

My answer is similar to Bob's. I had to be facedown for 5 days after emergency eye surgery in 2014 for a hole my macula. I was on restricted activity for another 5 weeks. I was eating less, but since I wasn't as active my appetite was reduced. My weight remained stable through this period of time. I did think I was going to lose my mind those first 5 days at having to be facedown. I was SO bored. You can only watch so many movies on the iPad and listen to so may podcasts. I really can't sleep well at all facedown.

I had been at GW several years when I was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Looking back, I’m not sure why my program didn’t unravel. Habits in part. And I’m pretty happy LTL Stuffing myself with pizza like I used to do wasn’t going to feel good. No one ever told me I’d be better off as a patient 50 lbs overweight.

My recovery from the surgery part was not so tough. The CA treatments were a bear.
