We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for October below:

TodaysTopic: 10/01/18 Last quarter of 201
Today starts the last quarter of 2018 and 3 quarters have past.

1. Are there any corrections or plans your thinking of making for this quarter regarding your weight loss journey? and would like to share going into these last 3 months?

Bonus Question: Are you easily distracted from the basic function of ttracking your intake?

I'm planning on a commitment of tracking relentlessly and staying at an 1800 maximum kcal journey these last 3 months. I'm also going to stay within my WW points the last 3 months of this year. My hope is that it will result in a minimum 13 lb loss which is 1 lb a week by the end of the year.

I'll be tracking on both WW & MFP knowing this is difficult but I have also joined with someone that I will be seeing eveyother week as an accountability partner at least till my local hospital hires a new dietitian nutritionist. Mine resigned back in the summer.

My desire is to get back on track this last quarter to get my behavior in line to keep this going till I eventually get to my goal weight a long way away. So taking that first step then keep going with the baby steps.

I’m maintaining in the green zone. Don’t plan to mess with it.

My plan for the fall is more yoga.

Bonus: I don’t currently track. But when I did, it was pen and paper. The little blue books were always on the kitchen counter. Easy to get at, hard to ignore.

Last Quarter didn't go so good for me with gaining more than losing. I guess I need to give up the beers and ice cream. I know I'm not trying hard enough so my goal is just to get better at my selections.

Continue tracking the good bad & ugly, though relying more on MFP and revised goals than last quarter. My 6-month special pricing on WW monthly pass is going to expire next month so I will return to just the monthly Lifetime meeting for $15. I have been tracking on both, but MFP allows me to focus more on lower carbs, higher protein, and controlled saturated fats which has really helped me and avoids the occaisional WW extreme Smartpoint penalties you can sometimes hit and see your week in flames.

Bonus: Yes, but my wife is tracking due to blood sugar issues and I often put in her breakfast which I make and dinner which I plan and prepare. So it is harder to go off the deep end now. Not to mention I am about as determined to get back down near my goal weight to protect my bad back and knee.

So I have been loitering in the same 5 lbs range for about 2 years which is still about 10 - 15 lbs above my goal. I leave for a 13 day trip to Ireland in 48 hours from now so my goal's are:
    1. to lose anything I put on during my vacation!
    2. To drop an additional 5 lbs by the end of the year.
    3. To get back into the gym or at least a regular exercise program ( starting with a daily walk of about 1 - 2 miles
    4. to get more relentless about tracking. I frequently start out OK in the morning and then lose the motivation in the afternoon.

Been trickling mostly up last quarter. I do ok when in town and not carried away too much. No big corrections but staying the course with a bit more effort.

Dropped twenty pounds since late June, so I am not going to change anything. MFP tells me I can have 2200 calories per day, but I have been shooting to stay under 2000, and have been very successful at doing it. Beyond that, I am usually at 350-400 calories burned from my morning walk, and I never touch those with food. At some point I may have to drop the 2000 per day, but not as long as I am losing consistently.

I remember we used to combine ROOT BEER and Ice Cream! LOL

We called it a Black Cow at A&W Root Beer.

I think considering what I've got going on (still have the major part of a move ahead of me in this last quarter--to a house that had some hidden / undisclosed defects), I'll be doing well to keep on keeping on. I realized this morning I am really tired, not so much of immediate lack of sleep as from the day-to-day of what this move has entailed. As I say that, I realize many others have it much worse and I truly feel for those who are struggling and/or have lost so much due to fire, flooding and the like. So perspective is important to me.

I've been very much on the go this summer and managed to more or less maintain by tracking. The few times I've stepped on the scale--either at home or at a WW meeting--I've been pretty much in my zone. I've been up and down a little but by and large hanging close to where I wanted to be. My plans for C25K got totally derailed this year but it's still something on my list for the future. I hope a year from now (sooner, actually), I'll be settled in the new place and able / excited to take on that challenge. It won't happen this year though, and I do have some regrets about that.

BONUS: Fortunately, no. Tracking is the lifeblood of my weight loss journey. It keeps me in the game and aware of my choices. While I intentionally subscribe to the GOADie philosophy of 'persistence not perfection', even if I'm way over my daily allotment, tracking keeps me mindful of my choices and my objectives. If there's one thing that helps me maintain, it's tracking.
