My EKG results showed Afib so I was referred to Cardiologist. My pinch nerve surgery os on hold until Stress Test and Echocardiogram.
Learning all aspects of Atrial Fibrillation ( Afib ) Anyone else with it?
At my age, 70, the Cardiologist said putting me under anesthesia for three hour surgery he had to control the Afib before surgery.

Had a touch after my bypass last year, but now just take warfrin to make sure no clots. I never felt and of the flutters, but wanted odd the Afib med ASAP, as it is NASTY!1

I hope it is controlled soon. Sending positive vibes.1

@Jimb376mfp Idw been in afib now about 2 + years I think. Never had the flutter and found out when I went for a colonoscopy about 4 years ago. They did 2 cardio versions on me one ton for about 6 months then had another colonoscopy a year later when back in for another cardio version it took for awhile but I slipped back in. I'm on Xarelto 20 mg presently but I'd I cut my self I bleed pretty bad. No side effects with it but tried Prodaxa & Eliquis and both those have me a splitting headache. Xarelto is very expensive around $450 per month. I have insurance till I hit the donut hole then it's crazy trying to figure the budget out. I currently this month fell into the donut hole and had 30 refilled it was $466.00. Not fun st all. Warfin is around $40 per month but you have to go to Dr and have a blood count once a month so my pharmacist told me it was just about a break even proposition.
Thinking about you Jim and saying a letter for you tonight before I turn on. God speed my friend.

Sorry to hear this Jim. My dad has afib so I'm a bit familiar with it. They have done a procedure a couple times to shock his heart into normal rhythm (my understanding, second hand from Mom, so not sure, is they put him under and use shock paddles). He's never complained about any discomfort after, so i don't think it's a big deal. The problem he's had is he slides back into afib eventually. And when he's in it, his energy level is down. My dad is much older and less never exercises, so I'd think you should have better success. Praying for you!0

@imastar2 Whoa! Did not know about costs, just learning medical aspect. Thanks for info. I need to review Donut Hole, heard of it but don’t know the details.
@linmueller
Thanks for info.

Praying for you Jim. I am sorry you had to postpone the surgery. Hopefully they will get this under control soon so they can resolve your nerve issues.0

I’m sorry to hear this, Jim. I have no experience with afib, but I hope they can get it under control soon.0

I hope they get this sorted quickly for you. My next door neighbor has suffered from afib for years. He recently had a surgery that is supposed to resolve his issue for several years to come. I wish I could remember the details, but I can't.

He probably had an ablation where they go in and find the cells in the atrium that are misfiring and basically kill them.

@Jimb376mfp I just wanted to follow up on what @linmueller had to say about her Dad. In my post I referred to my procedure as Cardio Version. The procedure involves an outpatient procedure where they put you under with anesthesia and use the method of shocking your heart with the paddles. Not positive they use the paddles but rather something on your chest similar to that. That's the basic principle. There is no discomfort with the procedure. However after its over you do have some redness on your chest like a sunburn.
Both of my procedures were successful but I had another colonoscopy a couple of months later after the last procedure and after I drank the cleanse drink I believe the electrolytes in the drink for my electrolytes out of whack this put me back into a fib. I never realize that I have a fib and my Cardiologist describe it as a flutter but no less a fib. That's the generality of my condition and I see my Cardiologist every 6 months and my weight and sleep apnea are my main culprits.
Your losing all the weight you've lost lost and being at the goal weight should put you in a much better position than I was in.
So just to also follow up on the types of blood thinners. I did a lot of research on these and talked with my pharmacist at length about them. His opinion was Xarelto was probably the best because he had met the developer I believe Dr Jansen and it took him 20 years to devote this drug and ran out of money to get it to last. Bayer bought it from him and brought it to market. I respect his judgment. But there are only about 5 of these blood thinners I've used 3 of them as I elutted to Pradaxa, Eliquis, and Xarelto. Warfarin has been around since 50 years this the reason it is cheaper. With it you have to have blood checked monthly and you have to regulate green leafy vegetables in your diet.
Lots out there on this general subject of a fib but I'm giving you my experience and results of having it. I have spoken to several friends who have had this and they do have a teaching heartbeat something I've never had.
I ran for 20 years 6 miles a day and 10 on Saturdays. That exercise I think had something to do with that even though I obese currently. Genes have something to do with folks general health as well. I'm blessed in that area according to my physicians.
Paying for good results and turn out for you. Please keep us posted as I know you will.

This link discusses what @imastar2 mentioned about his previous exercise habits:

I've also heard this discussed at other conferences that I have been at in the past few years.

Thanks GoaDies for inputs and kind thoughts.

Today Dr said results of StressTest showed “mild abnormality” and he would clear me for surgery IF/BUT I still need Echocardiogram.
Schedule to get that done Thursday 10/11 at 8:00 AM and see Dr at 9:00 AM.
Hoping all this may have been a scare but no severe cause for treatment. OTOH I know they have to err on the side of caution ( and CYA). Going forward hoping for the best.
Learned a lot about Afib!2 -
If you get a real bad cut, the non-wafrin meds take much longer to get clottinh going. Warfrin takes is a Vit. K shot.
And the INR check takes about 15 min. total. Of course, I'm onlt 1.2 miles from the office.

Yup, that's what my dad had done, twice.0 -
Jim, I certainly hope your A-fib has been "downgraded" and that you're cleared soon for your pinched nerve surgery. Thanks for keeping us posted and thanks to the contributing posters too. My oldest brother is scheduled for cardiac ablation within the next 10 days and all the info here has given me a better understanding of it.0

One of my grand daughters had that also to stop arrythmia.0

My neighbor had ablation performed, and he has been pleased with the results thus far.0

I rarely pass on heart stuff anymore. I would prefer to know now rather than find out the hard way. Once is enough and the wear and tear on the loved ones is not worth it.

@Jimb376mfp Wanted to wish you good luck on the electrocardiagram. Ive had either 1or 2 of those and another one coming up December or January. My Cardiologist and Electrocardiologist both salts I was not and ablation candidate because the success rate wasn't good enough for me. I think it was 90% but not 100% sure. Ive been checked out pretty thoroughly and also had the camera action that went down my throat .to take a picture of the rear of my heart and came through that pretty good.
Sounds like your in really good hands and I will keep you in my prayers that you can get relief for your pinched nerve.
