Why do runners run in the road?

    Yup. Roads are often beveled and running in the middle means a more level surface. I didn't realize asphalt was softer!

    I was thinking the same thing. There’s no way I’d run on the road, especially not in the dark. There are a couple of routes that I only run in daylight because there is no footpath, and even though there isn’t much traffic it still feels unsafe to be there.
