We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for November below:

Today's Topic: Do you incorporate LTL in a major hurdle for a one time event or efit? Like surgery or Thanksgiving?

We had some good food choices in hospital trauma/injury unit although my DW brought me hot sauce from home for my eggs. Not so bad.
Thanksgiving is tougher but only one meal. I make the better choice.

I try but for Thanksgiving, Christmas & Easter it is more the voice of moderation. When I come off a fast after an epidural, etc for my back, my son always takes me for a burger which is our tradition. But I suppose you could call all that our lifestyle. It is a lot healthier than it would have been in ye olden days!

@Jimb376mfp 1st Jim good luck on your pinched nerve surgery today.

I actually don't really plan so much for a special Holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas. It usually is a one meal for me and DW that day. We snack for breakfast and dinner and have the main course for lunch. I do plan with my LTL that it's only one day and usually only one meal so I do enjoy eating whatever I want to eat and how much I want to eat. Let's face it I can only eat so much at one meal then you got to stop. My WI day is on Friday so depending how it falls in the year my WI day is close or on the day so I just figure I will enjoy myself and then figure it out later. I figure my body will despense with most of it and I'll figure out the rest. The main thing is not to keep it going the next and the next and next day(s). That's really where the problem can comes in. Turkey day is only two weeks from tomorrow. I'm already working on controlling my self but then I'm in the losing mode. :)

I have not had a hospital stay in over a decade so that is not one I can speak to thankfully. As for T day Xmas etc. I usually try to be absolutly perfect for the days before and after the even, but pretty much try not to think about it the day of the event. The old WW saying its a holiday not a holiday not a holiweek comes into play

@Jimb376mfp --hope all goes / went well for ya, Jim. Here's to improved quality-of-life on the other side!

I try to when and where I can, for the most part. "Eating holidays", like T-giving, I do for sure. The truth is I can't comfortably eat as much as I used to pre-WW, and I really don't want to. I'm no saint, but I find I can still have more that enough food even minding the LTL lifestyle for the eating holidays. I choose that.

Something like a hospitalization, it's hard for me to say because I haven't had one since starting WW, but I think I'd probably make as decent choices as I was able, given the "restaurant". Under those circumstances, my priority would be just getting through the event, beginning to end. Food would be somewhat secondary. Or...my peeps would bring me something good from outside and I'd enjoy that.
