We meet here to explore, share, celebrate, and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for November below:
Monday - Imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday - Jimb376mfp (Jim)
Thursday - EliteCoachKal (Kal)

Today's Topic: What is the longest you have stayed away from the scale? Why and what got you back on it?

Since 2013 I have weighed weekly officially at WW and at the pool couple days a week.
My last WI was 11/1 four weeks wil be tomorrow due to surgery.I’m going to try to go just to see what’s up. The hospital weighed me laying on a hospital bed that varied greatly 194 then 176! So I am curious to compare to my last WW WI at 180.
Before WW I would get on s scale ONLY at Dr visit or if I was trying to diet.It was never something I looked forward to. Now I am looking forward to out of curiosity.0 -
3 days and that was because I was out of town. For longer trips I bring along a portable scale.

WOW! You are dedicated to LTL!0 -
Excluding those long stretches of just not caring (& weight gain) I would say a week. I usually WI each day but sometimes will just do a weekly. I like to WI daily just to keep my finger on the pulse of things and avoid surprises at the end of the week when I WI. I find it motivational unless my mindset is turned downward.0

5 days because of trips. I weigh every morning and have since I began my journey.1

I weigh every day, except for the occasional vacation or hospital/re-hab stay (although they weigh you there often enough..0

normally I weigh 2x a day before bed and upon waking up. Mostly I know what I will weigh in the AM based on what I weighed the night before, I just still like to see it. The longest I have stayed away from the scale is about 2 weeks due to trips. I will occasionally not want to get on the scale because I don't want to face the reality of what I have eaten, but those rarely last more than a day or 2, then its back on the scale.0

2 or 3 weeks when out of the country on vacation. I did skip weighing daily at home while losing at some point , but only because my scale wasn't working right. I got the same professional scale WW uses in our meetings (on sale) as a gift to myself just before making "goal" weight. For many years I just did a running average weight of at least 5 or 6 days. Each day added in the new weight and dropped off the oldest weight and averaged the weights which I recorded in excel. Weighing once a week is really just a very crude way of doing that.
Now I weigh daily at home and record on a paper calendar. I look at the week to see my rough average or do the simple math to see the trend.

I’ve probably gone a week here and there.
I weighed regularly carefully watching myself go all the way from 184 lbs to 285 lbs. No hiding from the scale for me. I think I grew desensitized.0 -

I've been away from the scale for the better part of the last six months as I've been working between locations and didn't make moving the scale back and forth a priority. What I did make a priority was tracking. On the few times I got on the scale, I almost surprised myself that I was usually pretty close to my goal weight--not always, but 85+% of the time.
I should be back to daily weighing within the month--with any luck. On reflection though, as we often say, the plan works if you work it. For me, the scale is only a reflection of how well I've tracked and stayed within my allotted points.0
