I was just looking back at Goadie post back in July 2016. It's been around 2 & 1/2 years since we came over as a group. I happened to look at the bottom of a post and it said last so I clicked on and it went back 166 pages or something like that. We have 233 members that have passed through but only a few of us have stuck around to post everyday or so. Just thought it was interesting to go back and see some of the old post. Didn't linger long but did wonder what happened to many of the old regulers & old timers. A few of these I got my inspiration from from. ie; Charlie and a few others.

Some just "lurk", checking in, reading, and making posts, as the spirit calls.

The board was losing steam at the end of the WW days. I think some of it is a continuation of that trend. Many of us called it our daily meeting. Posts were interactive and ongoing through the day, often morphing into other things. In the end things evolve as things change around us. GoaD is not immune.

I think it's harder to sustain with a handful of participants but still serves as a source of knowledge and support for me. To be honest, I much prefer to spend time on one of my photography sites if I'm on the internet. Weight loss is important to me, but moreso as a means to a better quality of life than the sole purpose of life itself.

I appreciate those of you that are still here contributing to our little corner of the world!

As noted above, the board had been dwindling at the end of WW anyway, and this seems to be a continuation.

The part of the WW board I used to enjoy was the back-and-forth that could happen almost in real time. Thus, it was fun to check in multiple times a day and see how conversations were evolving. I think that as other social sites, like FB, got increasingly popular, those became the sites to hang-out on.

I recently gave up my FB account as it was too much of a waste of time, and I didn't like the prevailing tone of the conversations that were happening. If this board were more active, I could see checking in more frequently.

I am sure FB and Instagram both had major impacts on board participation. They, especially FB, had a significant impact on a longstanding mailing list to which I subscribe. Well, that and politics, which luckily has not been an issue on this board.

There is a GoaD FB page, but this forum is usually busier.

I look at FB because my cousins and some friends all the way back to the sandbox are on it. But FB scares me.

I don't remember if I was on the GOAD FB page or not! ha ha.

There was always something nice about being a bit "hidden" from the rest of the world. I'd prefer not to let all of my real-world friends know about my weight issues. I'm not sure why, but it feels personal.

I miss the newbies. They were full of enthusiasm. Since they were tied to WW, there was a way to help them see when they might be off track a bit.

I also miss GOAD Island on Fridays. Sometimes I go by myself. What would I have if there were no calories in it or if I was a bit underweight? Now that it is cold and rainy where I live, I imagine sitting in my lounge chair by the ocean and ordering my umbrella drink. Hmm, I think I'll take a little mental visit there now.

TOL and I got into FB when our oldest g'daughter went to college, about 10 yrs ago. I'm on it daily, GoaD, my ML's page, my churches pages, and many more, plus my "straight up" hello world posts. No fear here.

I also miss the back and forth almost in real time as well. Great point @steveOmania. I also appreciate the support of this board and sometimes when we get a great topic going it sometimes takes on a life of it's own.

I miss the old board too, but I'm really glad we still have a community here. I really appreciate all of you . . . even though I'm not always around. (Trying to be more consistent in 2016.) I'd be crushed if this group went away.

If you're looking for more lively discussions, check out some of the other MFP boards. There are lots of knowledgeable folks in various threads on Success Stories, Food & Nutrition, Fitness & Health and Motivation & Support. There's good advice out there. (There are also threads that are just for fun.) I read a lot of the discussions because the reminders are helpful when I'm in loss mode.

I'm very grateful that this community survived all the turmoil. I don't have the long history that most of you have with GOAD as I don't think I found it until 2015 or so. It was Peg, the runner from South Florida, that led me to GOAD as I used to read the GOAD on the Run posts.

Steve-o makes a good point. FB for sure has taken a lot of folks. One wonderful east coast lady WW leader who had a couple of daily threads going on just stopped doing them although another lady has taken them up on another site.

I still shake my head and question WW's logic of shutting down the boards. How can it be a bad thing if you have a tool that inspires your customers to come to each day? FB is evil.

In the end this site, or even FB, is what we make of it. Even if WW had maintained the old boards, GoaD would have likely continued to change as it is now, but perhaps at a slower speed. The biggest change would be the influx of newbies from new WW members.

Do you remember the fly bys by women wanting to now APs for certain activities or Valentine gift ideas, etc?

And all the blowback we'd get for saying why should we tell you for free when we're actually paying for it? We were so rude. ;-)

I ASSUME you all know WW Connect replaced the Community Bull Boards. I know @minimyzeme posts there as I do too.

    FYI
WW recently added Groups for Connect In various categories (age groups, WW Bros, Maintenance etc etc)

My recent complaint about Connect is the influx of Newbies with dumb questions. I bite my tongue to not reply or get too snarky but I need to get away from it.

After six years on WW I have learned how to lose/maintain my weight. I keep reading here on MFP, WW Connect and a few FB GoaD and WW related FB sites to not forget how easy it would be to gain it back.

Actually, my first ever post on GOAD was asking about points for men. I'd been on the program for about three weeks and was finding it fairly easy and had the wonderful early water weight loss (which I didn't know at the time was water loss), and I was trying to convince DH to join. I thought, "If I can feed him for a week on whatever amount of points he gets, he'll see that he won't be miserably hungry and will join." So I asked the question. And I received the backlash you'd expect. It's amazing that I still remember some of who said what. (Cindy, Podkey and PJ were helpful. Thanks, Cindy and Bob!)

DH did join WW a couple of weeks later, and it was an eye-opener for him. I can still see his face when he saw points the points for mayonnaise. 😊

He lasted a month. I'm still here nearly eight years later.

And how about the men who'd get their panties in a bunch because there were women on a 'guys' site. :)
