Hi. I just joined MFD yesterday. I’m F46, 5’4, 238lbs with a goal weight of 138lbs. I’ve lost 80lbs before, but was unable to keep the weight off, and gained more in addition. I am able to adhere to food plans well if I have a plan and accountable, but getting to the gym daily I know will be tough at first, especially at my current weight.
I’d really like to challenge my self to drop 100 in 10 months but seems way too fast. I’ll have to think about it and monitor my progress in February. However, my doctors say it is crucial to my health (and back and fatty liver problems) I do this expeditiously, and I refused surgical options. I am starting now until Feb 1 @ low activity with goal of losing 1lb weekly as I prepare for this challenge mentally and logistically.
I look forward to taking this challenge with you!4 -
@teriseaton I’m F46, 5’4, 238lbs and need to drop 100lbs. I have dropped 80lbs before, but gained it back and then some. Happy you are here along with me for the journey!3

Hi,
Just joined up for Feb - Started MFP again in January and the eating side hasn't been too bad and weight loss is going OK. BUT I cannot motivate myself to exercise at all - I've dusted off the exercise bike and I'm going to make February the month that I get back into the habit.
I have 84 lbs to go and this time I'm going to do it!5 -
Hello, my names Debby, I'm a heart attack survivor, I had 2 in the same day, I have psoriatic arthritis which between them limits my ability to exercise so walking is the best exercise for me. I am currently doing a 6 week tai chi course that my dr sent me on and enjoying it far more than I thought I would, being quite inactive I have put on lots of weight, and need to lose it for me to feel like I am doing all I can for myself. I need accountability to motivate me especially on days that I have pain and fatigue when all I want to do is stay in bed with a heat pad..,I am determined to try and get fitter than I am...please be gentle with me folks!7

I have been logging daily on MFP for over 5 years now, but sometimes, what I'm logging isn't what I need for the results I want. (I'm glad I kept the habit up regardless, and I think it probably prevented even worse weight gains, but I know I can get great results that I haven't been seeing when I've been less fully dedicated.)
2018 ended with me being a few pounds heavier than when I started the year, but I've begun 2019 determined to get my eating under control and up my exercise, and so far, January has gone well. I'm part of the Hogwarts weight loss group, but I thought another challenge would be good for me, especially for times when we're breaking between terms at Hogwarts. The format of this challenge appeals to me (exercise, log, simple math), and I'm looking forward to getting to know another group of awesome people.5 -
Hi, I am Jen and I started UAC last month. I started MFP on 12/28 and found this group immediately. Three days later the January challenge started. Also, when I first joined I searched for groups to become active in. I found a handful and joined them along with UAC. Since then, I have dropped them all, and UAC is the only group I am active in. This is a great group and I am very thankful I found it.
@teriseaton There are alot of different "levels" in this group. However, you are in the right group. I am trying to re-develop healthy habits that will become a permanent healthy lifestyle. I have more pass days than days I meet the daily challenge. However, I am learning my healthy habits. For example, I can't stay within my calorie range if I don't eat healthy at home, and track my food. And by tracking, I also need to measure correct portions---cuz I suffer from "eyes-are-bigger-than-stomach-itis". I am still developing this habit, but slow and steady wins this race, and all that matters is that I am moving forward to my weight loss goal. This group is full of wonderful supportive people. I have 80 pounds to lose if I want to reach my ideal healthy weight. I didn't gain that weight overnight, and I am not going to lose it overnight either. My weight loss goal is 2 pounds a week and developing a healthy lifestyle. I need this group, and very thankful for this group. Trust me, you are in the right group
Also, I wanted to say if anyone would like to add me as a MFP buddy, feel free. I would love more MFP buddies!!5 -
Hi everyone!
My name is Lauren. 32 year old female. First time in this (or any) challenge. I've been on MFP for a little over two years now. The first year I lost about 50 lbs and was really on a roll. But then in January 2018 I was laid off from my job and motivation to take care of myself sort of fell by the wayside. I never stopped logging my calories and activity, but I did stop pushing myself in my fitness and hitting my calorie goals. For that second year, I more or less just maintained my weight and fitness. Even after I found a new job, I spent too many months in a lazy mindset and have struggled to break those lazier habits.
I'm committing to changing that though! I think accountability would be very helpful in getting back to my previous success. I still have about 25lbs to lose, but I'm more focused on getting back in shape and letting weight loss be a byproduct of that. The last few weeks I've been turning it around and falling back into better habits. Hopefully, posting here on a daily basis will keep me on track!
Thanks all!5 -
Good morning everyone!! I see a lot of new names. That's great! More support. I see similarities in so many of you.
@KCJen Go Chiefs!! I'm in Kansas. Are you in KS or Missouri? Also thanks for all your words of encouragement.
@debbywaines I am new to this group, and returning to MFP after over a year away. I think we are in good company of compassionate people full of support.
@strongscartlet we are in the same boat......let's steer this ship!3 -
Joining for the month of February and on.
130lbs, wanting to go down to 115lbs.3 -
@teriseaton Go Chiefs!! I am in Missouri. Hi neighbor : )
It is nice to see people joining the group : )1 -
I had an interesting (and welcome) surprise on the scale this morning. I’ve drastically improved my diet/nutrition and logged it on LifeSum for the past month. I joined MFP two days ago. A week ago I reduced my daily cal down by 500kcal to 1630kcal. I strictly adhered to it and upped my water intake. I’ve been sedentary, and will begin my exercise program on Friday, but am getting steps in. My start weight was 237.8lbs. I’ve had surgeries, and been on bed rest the majority of the time during the past 3 years, and am completely deconditioned, severe muscle-wasting, edema It’s taken 6 months to rehab myself to be up and functioning to that of a “basic person” that is not fit.
This morning I got on the scale and weighed in at 233.2 after a long plateau. Wild 3.8lb “loss” since last night. I wonder how much water weight I will be dropping. I’m not sure if I should be proud of it but it was deeply satisfying to input my weight here this morning.5 -

Be proud! When I had unexpected losses I realized that some of it might be fluid. BUT that new number on the scale also affirmed what was possible. That, in addition to the loss, was very motivating for me.2 -
@strongscartlet so happy for you! It sounds like you are working hard and taking positive steps. Good job!2

We're three days away from our February Challenge. To those of you who have been a part of these challenges in the past...…...any advise? What exactly do we need to do? Just post our BITE, LICK, TASTE...…..a.k.a. all food intake for the day? Do we post it only to our diary, or here also? Thanks!0

Details are in the FAQ thread - but feel free to ask us too. That is what the "What's On Your Mind?" Thread is for as we move into the month.
The BITE, LICK, TASTE / DID info goes into your Food and Exercise Logs (if "exercise" for the day is the kind of thing that can't really be measured, like "dancing to the radio" or "serious decluttering / cleaning" then time spent can be entered in the Notes section of your Exercise log if you wish (so that you can look back at it later)
When done logging for the day, or looking back at yesterday's closed out info, come report in.
The 3 questions here are all "Yes / No" (3 Yes's = pass not required) based on your log(s) Details on Type of 20 or more minutes exercise are optional, but can be fun and inspiring for others to read.

Hello everyone! I was on a roll with this challenge over a year ago, but fell out of practice of MFP. But I am back! I love this challenge
I live in the Dallas area with my husband and 3 year old son. I am looking to lose some weight and reach some challenging fitness goals this year, and I believe this will help keep me on track!
Looking forward to receiving and giving some motivation with the group! It truly is a challenge that anyone can do, you just gotta stay focused and make it a habit! GL to you all!5 -
Hi. I’m Jessica. This is the first time I’ve joined a group or a challenge. I lost around 40lbs last year and working to lose another 40 this year. I’m really motivated to continue to losing weight and learning to live a healthier lifestyle.6

Also posted on the Jan 30 reporting thread, but for those of you who are new to UAC for February ....
For the parts of the continent where this weather is NOT typical, so you don't have the outdoor clothes 'cause you just never had to deal with this kind of situation long term on a regular, yearly basis ...... EXTREME COLD CAN KILL IN MINUTES IF YOU ARE NOT DRESSED FOR IT!
Stay safe! Stay Warm!
I have lived in "Cold Country" all my life - it takes ~ 5 minutes from " decide it's time to leave" to gearing up, to going through the door ..... and THEN have to start car, scrape or brush car windows, maybe clear sufficient snow or plow leaving to get out of driveway ..... and THEN start longer-slower than normal commute.
We've had some snow this month too
BTW, those are Adults on the road ....
Explore indoor possibilities for now ....
If you are desperate for the illusion of The Big Outdoors - search Youtube for "treadmill workouts" "elliptical workouts" and / or "virtual trails / tours". You get a first-person view of "the trail / road" unwinding before you as you jog in front of the tv (if you have indoor cardio equipment where you can see the tv, or can call it up on a tablet you can put on the magazine rack, so much the better!) They can be anywhere from under 15 minutes to over an hour. (Or there is the 6 - part "real time down the Grand Canyon" set ...
Explore places you've been "for real" in the past, or check out places you have always wanted to see.7 -
Hi everyone! My name is Leanna. I cannot wait to start this challenge. I really need to start holding myself accountable for my calories and daily exercise (or lack thereof). I started the Just Give Me 10 Days challenge this month, and it's already helping me realize a lot about myself. I feel embarrassed every time I have to post an increase in weight. That just makes me want to do better, so I know that this challenge will motivate me even more especially since it includes the exercise aspect.7

Hi all!
My name is Abby and this is my first timing doing this challenge! I've been on and off MFP for years now, and am hoping this will help me actually stick to it. I'm hoping to lose 30 lbs this year and then hopefully maintain. Good luck everyone!8 -
Hi everyone! My name is Nadia, I am a mom of two kids 7 and 4. I am 5'4" and 137 currently. Want to achieve 125! Hoping this group will be enough motivation to stay active and healthy this winter. Love and hugs to all!7

@ faithfuleefit Thank you for posting about being embarrassed about posting a gain in weight. That is one of my biggest struggles and downfalls. I feel ashamed, so unsuccessful and then hopeless. Appreciate your honesty to help me see my problems and learn to deal with them.

@teriseaton The more that I post the easier it becomes. Everyone in the MFP community has been so kind. Posting helps me to understand my body and habits better. I've noticed that on the days that I do especially well or on the ones where I fall short, I don't see the results until another day has passed...and I always know exactly what caused me to gain or lose. Don't feel bad about posting. We understand that every day won't be amazing. If you're doing everything you set out to do during the day but don't see the results...keep going. You will see them eventually. If you slip up on any given day, don't stress about it. Just make sure that you get back on track the next day. Success isn't something that happens over night. You'll have to keep working at it. Don't worry. You can do this!!3
-
Thank you!! I get disappointed in myself I appreciate your help to overcome that. I will have faith2

I have never done a challenge, I hope to succeed. I am doing IF and intuitively eating. I am the worst to mindless and emotionally eat and am trying hard to stop it. Weighing multiple times a day helps me stay accountable, I understand weight fluctuates due to food, water, activity, sodium, etc. When I only weighed once a week I would get unmotivated because I might have a high weight due to high sodium and feel no progress. So I plan on adding in my check-in's the highest and lowest weight I observe on the scale that day. I do not add a new low to MFP tracker until I see it at least 2 days. I would love to lose 10 lbs this month.6
-
@mommy_hood Good luck!! Let's stay focused on this2

I'm back again. January fell apart pretty quickly with kitchen renos and other things but I am ready to get back to consistency.3

Just an alert to those who are new to this challenge. Posting weight is not a criteria for success with UAC. Some do post weight as progress is made. Others never post weight. I am in the latter group who never posts weight. You need share only as much as you are comfortable with in the daily thread. There is no shame on the UAC forum. Every team member's intent should be to encourage others to develop healthy habits including exercise, calorie consumption and tracking or logging everything consumed. Any weight loss is a by-product of those healthy habits. Weight loss is not a matter of luck. Diligence and perseverance always wins!8
