It would be a good idea to sit down and write down what healthy goal you do want most.
What price are you willing to pay to obtain the healthy goal?
If you don't pay the price to obtain that goal...what will be the cost to your health if you let yourself get in your way?

@RangerRickL, that is definitely a quote that I try to live by! Of course, I have sometimes completely failed and gone with the "easy" path, indulging what I want now instead of working on my ultimate goals. But I really do like to frame it like that and think about long-term effects.3

Great quote. I met old work buddies last night at Red Lobster and pre-logged what I would order. I knew if I even tasted a cheddar biscuit it would be downhill from there so didn't even have a bite of those luscious heavenly pillows of delight.
I've never been out to a restaurant before without having the bread. Huge NSV for me!! My eye is definitely on the prize.12 -
What healthy goal you do want most: Remove the daily drinking, get down to minimal drinking on the weekends.
What price are you willing to pay to obtain the healthy goal: The struggle of denying myself the desires that nag at me. I know it will be temporary, just need to push past them.
If you don't pay the price to obtain that goal...what will be the cost to your health if you let yourself get in your way? Continued weight gain, depression of self disappointment. Bad influence on my adult children.

What healthy goal you do want most?: A sustainable active retirement lifestyle with the "hidden payoff" of no need of cholesterol-control meds or late-onset diabetes control meds on the horizon for a long while yet.
What price are you willing to pay to obtain the healthy goal?:
[*] Short-term specifics: Sweat more! - up the core training intensity level to tone my tummy and shift "exergame level activity" out of primary and into "active rest days / reward for studying" and "moving meditation" category.
If you don't pay the price to obtain that goal...what will be the cost to your (whole-of-life well-being) health if you let yourself get in your way? :
[*] Over the long term, the amount of time needed "exergaming" for sufficient calorie burn payback will interfere too much with time to do anything else ...
[*] Then it just becomes an excuse to procrastinate on all other aspects of my life I will want to explore or expand.
[*] Especially creative activities that will require significant blocks of dedicated time, to make set-up time worth the effort as I dig through the early over-self-critical part of the learning curve.

My goal is to maintain the fit healthy lifestyle that I have achieved over the last 4 years. This does not preclude the odd nibble of chocolate or other treats in moderation. 😂 Life is for living, after all!
I will continue to do what I have been doing as it seems to work for me.7 -
Good quote and painful for today because I'm going to have to take a pass day. Just didn't handle my eating very well. I will do better tomorrow!!5

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, recumbent bike - 23 minutes, 6.83 miles; 14-minute dog walk, .89 miles
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
What price are you willing to pay to obtain the healthy goal? I'm willing to forgo desserts, overeating, and grazing to get to a healthy weight. I believe I have broken the stronghold that food has over me and I'm beginning to see how portions of food should be. Instead of a bowl of ice cream, I have a half-cup of ice cream, etc. I'm not depriving myself this time. If I want something I have it. But, I also make sure that I keep under my calories every day. I've never done that before and I really like the me I'm becoming. I'm also willing to exercise at least 20 minutes EVERY day (thanks @RangerRickL!)
If you don't pay the price to obtain that goal...what will be the cost to your health if you let yourself get in your way? I will continue to be obese, I will continue to be on medication, and I'll continue to be in pain all the time. I've already seen a huge difference in my pain levels and I'm able to walk again without too much pain.
So thankful that I found MFP and this group to keep me at it every day!7 -

I love today’s message. Lately I’ve been thinking hard about my goals when I have super over indulgent cravings or want to take it easy at the gym. And I’ve been slaying my short term goals.
Long term, I know it’s just a number but I want to be at a healthy BMI for the first time in my life. Also I’d like some abs.
I am willing to do the work, for the rest of my long healthy life!
3x’s yes today. 60 minute aerobics and 45 minutes strength. Under on calories with no eat backs.

Yes x3
Focused on upper body strength exercises today since the ever occurring charlie horse woke me up the other night. I really need to figure out why I keep getting them.3 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes - weight training. Stronglifts Workout A. Got some helpful advice from a fella in the gym about my squat form, which I very much appreciated.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? yes.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes.
Today was monthly weigh in and monthly measurement day. I'm down 7.5 lbs over the past 30 days, and took some inches off waist and hips. NSV was that my "Active Pants" (lol, that's how they're categorized on Amazon) have started to work down slightly during vigorous exercise. Not to the point (yet) that they're TOO big, but now they're definitely looser than they were at the beginning of January.
I like today's intro post very much. A great way to think about and reframe this journey.7 -

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? 3 mile treadmill run followed by 30 minutes of strength (core and arms) this morning
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes and slightly under
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yep!
@BonnieHosk85 -- that is one fantastic NSV!
@jesseme -- I used to get horrible charlie horses at night. I found upping my potassium levels during the day and stretching out my calves before I went to sleep helped a lot.
@jan110144 -- Safe travels to my state!
@hkfleming -- Congrats on your amazing loss and NSV! I always say clothing that's too big is a good problem to have!
@RangerRickL -- great quote!
The healthy goal I want most is twofold -- get back to my personal goal weight (I'm about 9 lbs shy of that right now) and continue to get strong for my running and upcoming Spartan race.
What price are you willing to pay to obtain the healthy goal? Continue getting up at 5am every weekday and early on Saturdays for long runs; watch and record everything I put in my mouth; and be a food snob -- if it's not worth the calories, it's not worth being in my body.
If you don't pay the price to obtain that goal...what will be the cost to your (whole-of-life well-being) health if you let yourself get in your way? I'd regain the 50+ pounds I've lost and kept off for almost two years now, and I'd love being a runner, which has become one of the ways I define myself. No food is worth losing those!2 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? YES (outdoor walk)
