Hi There All,

I'm wondering.... On the weekends I still count my carbs, watch my calories, etc, but i don't seem to lose any weight. I sleep in much later on Sat and Sun, but that's the only difference. Is eating 'brunch', instead of breakfast and lunch sabotaging me?

It's more likely to be water fluctuations from the extra sleep. Typically I get up early on Saturday and my morning weigh in will be in line with the weekday, but typically I sleep in on Sunday and if I remember to weigh in, then it's usually disappointingly high. Water retention is part of the bodies repair process, and the repair process is accelerated during sleep, so extra rest can mean extra water, but it's just water and your body healing.

Being out of your normal routine affects hormones which causes fluid retention hence now weight loss. The body is a peculiar thing. Don let that get you down. Expect it and keep doing what you’re doing that’s working otherwise!

It was especially depressing this weekend, because I had Monday off as well - and I use the scale @ work so I went 3 days without any loss.

I think I drink more water on the weekends too..

Thank you for the responses, I feel much less bummed out now :)

The number on the scale is not linear and is affected by a multitude of things that have nothing to do with the fat content of your body.

Don't let the number on the scale, especially with day-to-day changes, affect you emotionally. If that starts happening, stop weighing altogether. You should be measuring other things beside the number on the scale, anyway.

When my dad had serious heart trouble, and was in cardiac rehab, they had him weigh daily to monitor water retention. His dr and nursing staff told him his fluxuations on a daily basis should be between 1-3lbs anything over 3lbs was abnormal and was cause for concern regarding water retention for him during that time.

How the number on the scale gets there is so complicated. The human body is affected by a number of things, the scale is affected by a number of things. If the number on the scale is affecting your mood or mental health take a break @dragonwolf has good advice to track other things.

I admit I am getting a big sense of achievement from the scale, as the numbers are getting smaller.

it IS a good feeling! but maybe find other things to get that sense of achievement from just so when the scale fails you you don't feel like a failure.

Yep! Don’t forget that the scale is a big fat liar too!! Measurements can be a source of inspiration when the scale decides to be a big *kitten*hole!

I just started week 4. The scale is moving for me every day, except Monday. Funny you should mention clothes though, as I went hunting thru my closet to see if I had any size 18s that I had outgrown. Unfortunately, I moved last year and I think I got rid of all that. I've been pretty brand loyal to Old Navy, because their sizes are consistent and I can order online w/o fear. I should go there and try on some 18 jeans :)

I am often up slightly on Monday. Monday is my day off, and Sunday is a high stress day that has me functioning out of my introvert box. I have always thought it was the schedule and stress that was doing it. I stick with the program and am not eating donuts or anything.

I think your weight fluctuates during the week, I wouldn't worry too much about it. It doesn't mean you aren't losing weight or your doing something wrong. As long as it's trending down you are still losing weight. It's probably water retention.
