We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for January are below:
Monday - imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday - whathapnd (Emmie)
Wednesday - myallforjcbill (Bill)
Thursday - gadgetgirl (Regina)
Friday - Al_Howard (Al)
Today's Topic: End of Month recap!
Today is the last day of January. Some of us had posted previously about things we wanted to do differently in order to meet our goals. So as January comes to an end, how did you do? What might you do differently in February?

I didn't make specific goals for the month but am glad to be back doing some upper body in the gym and some slightly longer hill climbing routes on my bike. Plan on doing more gym and more hill climbs in Feb.0

I think it did a good job this month. I recommitted to losing weight, and developed a specific plan for how I was going to modify my intake and energy expenditures. I mostly stuck to my plan. I have had hardly any alcohol except for Friday night through Saturday night, no snacks during the week whatsoever, and I'm now on week five of C25K. It's all going well.0

I was putting very little effort in for November & December. My only goals for January were to get my head back into the game, track regularly and see a different trend on the scale. Overall I think I did OK, not great. My head is back in the game though I am struggling to track well, but at least I am working it. Weight is coming down again and I have a chance of breaking even for the month after picking up 5lbs by the 12th. In addition, I have been able to work through some shoulder issues to be able to exercise & stretch again after being shut down a couple times and am now walking daily. Feeling optimistic and working on getting in touch with my needs and motivations to help push through the tracking rough road in February.
Good one Regina0 -
I have been tracking everything every day and I am starting to get my groove back slowly but it's getting there.0

I did have good plans and good intentions for January. I knew I had Skin Cancer surgery on the 17th and frankly it freaked me out not knowing If they wer going to get it all or not. They did that settled me down but while trying to heal up on Thursday my DS had a pretty bad Auto Accident
the next night or early Saturday am. Concussion, Fractured ribs, snapped ankle that was reset, and a lower back issue. He was in the hospital about 3 days and now home with us. This again has been a major setback in my January plans but thank God he's alive the car was totaled no other vehicle involved and two passengers were not transported to hospital as he was.
DW and I have been tending to his needs as best we can he's 25 and still needs prayer.
As I sit here writing this DW and I are longing to get back in the groove.0 -
Continuing on about my January. I made a decision not to weigh everyday which I had been doing for years. I just decided that Tuesday last week after getting DS out of hospital. So not to make excuses I just didn't or haven't had my head in the game and tomorrow Friday's WI may not be so pretty. We'll see how it goes. Matters not at this point life's challenges go on and we all have to deal with life one way or the other.
February is here and I'm ready to get on track mentally and physically.0 -
The positives for January:
+ MFP works so much quicker and reliably with my new iPad that I'm staying on top of my tracking during the day.
+ Revisions to my activity tracking spreadsheet are giving me better information and I'm staying on top of that as well. I'm doing much better with the amount of activity during the work week.
+ I got my 12th 200K bike ride done the first Saturday of the month when we had unseasonably warm weather.
+ I got out on my snowshoes 4 times in January!
+ I was at the same weight for my annual physical as the previous two years
The challenges for January:
- I'm still going over my daily calorie budget too often, especially during the work week.
- The brutal cold and snow (Chicago area) has kept me off the bike since my 200K
- Work continues to be stressful. The latest is that our provost who started less than 2 years ago is leaving at the end of the semester. There rumblings that enrollment targets aren't being met so there may be more budget cuts.
- I'm still awaiting approval for the revisions to my master's program so that we can start new students June 2019. The clock is ticking.
February should get off to a better start in terms of bike riding as our temps will be in the 40s this weekend (as compared to setting new record lows the last 2 days). I also have a trip planned to Louisville, KY at the end of the month to get in a 200K. I do better with my calorie budget when I can get in long bike rides on the weekends. The long rides also help me manage my stress better.

So as January comes to an end, how did you do? What might you do differently in February?
I didn't make specific plans for January. I'm eyeballing Feb as closer to Spring, eager to work on the C25K. I would prefer to do my training outside but the see-saw of weather patterns are not real conducive right now. Pending consideration of joining a local gym but my experience and sticktuitivenss haven't been real favorable for me and gyms in the past. Maybe that was then...0
