We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for February are below:

Monday - imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday - gadgetgirlIL (Regina)
Wednesday - minimyzeme (Kim)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - jerdtrmndone (Jerry)

Today's Topic: Your LTL Journey: Is there one thing or maybe two that you feel troubles you or gives the body difficulty through out your daily weekly or annual journey?.

I feel perhaps there may be something someone could share with the group that would help someone else.

Exercise is troubling due to severe back issues so I do all low key. My night time snacking has been terrible but I challenged myself to have ice cream one night a wk. only and also keep my calories in close range to my allotment and it has been helping.

One of my role models here at the retirement community is a woman who is 98. Her name is Fran. You would never guess her age by looking at her. She comes in to exercise at our center a minimum of 3 times a week. Recently the Northern Illinois Council on Aging updated their video, "Exercise: It's Never Too Late". Several of the residents at our community were featured in short vignettes along with other senior adults in the area. One of the pearls of wisdom that Fran shared was that she often doesn't feel well in the morning but makes herself come down and exercise anyway. She said she always feels better afterwards. She also shared that if you sit too much that you will feel it in your body (aches, pains, and stiffness). She said you have to keep moving.

Fran inspires a lot of people including me! I certainly wasn't feeling like exercising this morning after having fasted for 12 hours for lab work. I had done a long bike ride yesterday so I was feel very depleted. But I did a moderate paced walk and I did feel better afterwards!

Injury to my foot and ankle- trying to keep it from taking over my head.

Getting enough sleep- a chronic problem for me. If anyone has anything on this topic, I’ll be happy to listen.

Excess snacking- as I’m retired I often have instructed afternoon time in close proximity to the kitchen. Today’s idea- I’m rolling lunch back to 1:00pm from noon. I have found delay a useful tool in dieting.

I had to move on earlier and couldn't chime in. Something in my head has gone haywire. Just an example I used th Super Bowl to stop by the Grocery and picked up two (2) bags of chips. One to dip and one tortilla chips and some dip. By the time we cooked a hamburger patty the damage was done. Then had a couple or 3 cookies and some fun size Hershey's bars 2 I think. These items shouldn't be in my house but stupid me bought them for me and DW.

Lately I've had this off the tracking thing and eating whatever. DS had a car crash and has been out and at home for 2 weeks today. He's had a couple of set backs. This am DW woke up with pain so off to Dr. No diagnosis as of yet. This has everything to do with nothing but letting myself get distracted. Life just happens to all of us at one time or the other.

Just have to keep pushing through and do what we know is the best thing and that's tract track track and make the right choices.

@imastar2 Hang in there. Take time and breath slowly you are probably having anxieties. You can do this. Think about your health and family. I also was doing as you. I needed to do psycho therapy to deal with DW's severe health issues Kidney failure, neuropathy and waking up one morning not being able to see properly she now has low vision, I had to realize what my priorities needed to be. so I choose to be healthy to help her. Just think about what is more important healthy eating or snacks calorie none friendly foods. Not that you can not have them but learn to control them. You have the will power you just need to use it. I'm positive you will do this my friend.

Initially, I'd say no. Which is not to imply that I have it all figured out or that every day is a picnic but more to say in general, I feel this / my lifestyle is sustainable for the long-term. I put myself on a 90% plan from Day 1 with WW--that if I followed the eating plan for 90% of the time, I'd still be much better off than with no plan at all, eating and drinking as I did pre-WW.

I feel fortunate to have gotten good advice to just stay the course if and when I reached goal. There was no big celebration and for the past few years, nothing has bumped me off that trajectory for more than a meal or two (or slice of pie or two). But that is my plan--the 90% plan!

I'm working at getting more activity into my life. It's a helluva lot easier now than carrying the extra weight. There's much more room for improvement, but it's steadily moving upward. I could certainly stand to dedicate some time to toning and building muscle--but that would mean giving up time that I currently devote to other things. So far, the priority still tips toward the other things--mainly photography or walking the dog or ...

I feel that committing to a 'one day at a time' approach has helped me stick with it without becoming overwhelmed or "doomed" to a lifestyle I can't maintain. I do minimal mental work--small course corrections--on any given day to stay mindful and make healthier choices. For the time being, that's prevented me from going down the rabbit hole and bailing on this lifestyle.

This year it has mostly been some of the little things which have led to some creepage up to my official WW goal weight. So far haven't exceeded 2lb over but has been a bit troubling.

I do similar things daily for a long time.
