I've found mixed info in my Googling regarding these strips. When I test, I get a dark purple, does this mean I am in Ketosis?

Your bottle or box should come with a reference chart. If it's the same as most, darker colors mean the presence of ketones in the urine. If you're keeping your carbs low, 20g or so per day, and sticking with that for a while, you should be getting into ketosis.

If you stop seeing results after a week or two, and are sticking to the diet honestly, then the strips will become a waste to keep using. You can test blood or breath after this, but I think most of us just stop testing unless we're diabetics or have some other medically necessitated need to do so.

I guess what I don't understand is, does the presence of Ketones mean ketosis, or is it the absence?

Good tip. I drink a lot of water. I'm hooked on carbonated water. :)
