Suit irritating my shoulder

Let me start by saying, I know the ultimate answer is going to be a new swimsuit, but I'd like to hold off a bit as I'm still losing.

I'm running into a problem with my suit while doing backstroke; it's rubbing my left shoulder raw, which doesn't feel too nice. Is there a skin protectant I can use when I know I'm going to be doing backstroke? I'm thinking Vaseline, but if there's something out there that's better our less greasy I'd love to give it a try. TIA.

My wife uses wet suit shorts, a water worthy sports bra and a sleeveless rash guard shirt.
I don't know if this can work for you.
She also uses a sports bra under her regular swim suit.
Seems to me that will move less and therefore chafe less.

So actually, there’s products out there specifically designed for this exact issue! There’s one brand that I believe is called glide, and I think it comes in a lotion and spray, and it works great. I’ve used it for open water swims where the water is salty and the constant motion can cause irritation and it works quite well.

Have you tried anti-chaffing products for runners? They are a little more widely available. I've found success using them in the water as well.

A&D diaper rash ointment is a good anti chafing product. BUT health codes in most states require a “cleansing shower” before entering a public pool and you’re supposed to wash off creams and lotions.
Consider a large bandaid or skin protector sheet.

Maybe: Try a waterproof tape under the shoulder strap?

I swam 59 minutes today in a pool with a waterproof bandaid on the extensor surface of my right thumb. Only a very small part began to feel off. Your suit strap will keep the tape from coming off while it rubs on the tape and not your skin.
    Cheers!
