The Low Carb md is a relatively new podcast that I'm enjoying. I think it is worth checking out.

Thank you for posting! I’m enjoying this!
Also, I do think that Keto is making its way around the medical community as a legitimate way of eating (finally!). Three years ago I mentioned to my surgeon that I was eating this way and his response was, “You need to eat a balanced diet.” When I saw him in January he asked me how I was keeping the weight off and I told him with a ketogenic diet, and his response was positive and surprised that I was able to keep carbs that low. I did remind him that I’ve been doing it for four years and he was sort of speechless. Then he just said to keep doing what I’m doing because it’s working for the weight management!8 -

It really is more mainstream. More often than not now I am surprised by people telling me that they are doing keto rather than by being told that I am hurting myself. LOL
Actually, I have found myself being surprised that some people don't know the science and results from keto and get surprised by doctors writing (what now appears to be incorrectly) about cholesterol, fibre, antioxidants and a host of other things. It's kind of nice that the word is getting out.2 -
I am running into people who have been doing 10 years locally and more and more doctors start with Keto for Type 2 new patients before they hit them with meds if just prediabetic. I do think things are turning at MD level. Most know we are running out of healthcare $$$ in this country or for many important things. There are 2-3 new keto threads popping daily it seems and the new people hear more and more positive things from other members. Got into an hour positive discussion at the dentist office waiting room last week.2

I'm all for folks getting healthier but with it getting more mainstream it also means a lot more people that don't know what they are doing let alone they don't do any kind of true research and end up miserable or banging up their health. Now we have garbage companies with their chemical crap slapping the word keto on it which is another mess in the making. Drive by a GNC and you will see their big Keto banner.
People get into keto and don't have a clue about being fat adapted as part of the deal for instance. Then there is living and dying by a number on a scale after water weight drops.
I help where I can but all I keep seeing are people complaining about a $10 bathroom scale number lol.

Keto in a few years will be more common than today with the people like us that want Keto to stay away from taking so many Rx Meds in retirement. I am tired of enriching others at my expense. Health does not come in a Rx bottle. Keto is changing the way I look at life in general well beyond my physical health.5

Just listened to the first podcast. Fantastic. As a nurse, I really appreciate the candid remarks about Big Pharma influencing their practice (throwing drugs at medical conditions)...but now evidence (low carb and lifestyle changes), from their own experience and their patients, is their practice model.
Thanks for the recommendation 👍1 -
@MAJdansk, as a nurse, myself, I see these physicians as potential pioneers in their fields. Their own “Before and After” stories can help motivate and encourage other physicians to adopt this woe for themselves too. Hopefully this can lead to some patients actually getting the recommendation with proper information.
Though @qweck3 I believe there will always be the “uninformed”. The people who enter blindly then feel like kittens and want to claim that it wouldn’t ever work for them because of that. Instead of doing the research and knowing what to expect, and what to do about it... I think there are likely those types in every woe.
And @GaleHawkins once people realize that Keto is more than just a diet I feel the push back from big pharma will get louder (so to speak). Their profit margins will have them fighting against anything that keeps them from losing money! It’s so sad, but they will try to have all of us looking like we’re flipping crazy and many people will believe it! Goodness are they going to fight!
I’m loving these!! Thank you again!!5 -

My doctor has been very open minded about the keto diet. She always asks me every time I go in if I'm still doing it and how it's going.
On the other end of the spectrum...when I first started the diet I was looking to see if it would help my epilepsy (which it didn't really seem to unfortunately) I was referred to a dietitian to see if I was following the diet properly and I was amused to find out that I actually knew more about how to follow it than she did. Every piece of information that she pulled out to show me was stuff I had already learned about here!5 -
We'll know it's gone mainstream when there are more promoters than detractors on the MFP main!3
