Maltitol

Options
Sooooo....I went looking for a Quest Bar and couldn't find one. I ended up finding a high protein bar with 0g sugar, Low GI and gluten free. I look at the carbs...24g, 1g Dietary Fiber and 21g of sugar alcohol...

You subtract the S.A from the carbs and keep it moving...right?

Ate the bar...looked at the ingredients...and I see Maltitol. Did I just screw myself up!?!?!?

Well, it's 16-23 grams of actual carbs. Maltitol shouldn't even be counted as a sugar alcohol. It affects blood sugar like normal sugar, it has 3 calories per gram, it just fails every possible low carb test. That's before talking about the digestive issues it may cause.

That said, if it fits into your carb allowance, it isn't the end of the world. If it doesn't, it is not going to be the end of the world either. Learn from it and move on.

    Check this out.

The whole video is good, but that should start right at maltitol. Short answer, when you see it, read "sugar" because that is essentially what it is and how it behaves.

Not to mention, the GI effects of Maltitol. Not fun.

Yep, American Vandal covered that in Season 2.
