We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for February are below:

Tuesday - gadgetgirlIL (Regina)
Wednesday - minimyzeme (Kim)

Today's Topic: Accountability. I don't believe we've discussed this subject in awhile. It can tend to change from time. I know it has for me.
1. Do you have an accountability program such as going to WW meeting weekly? And is that sufficient for you.?
2. Do you consider this board a suitable accountability forum for you? Has it lost it effectiveness?.
3. Are you or have you considered any type accountability that you might pay for?. ie something other than WW.?

    2. Do you consider this board a suitable accountability forum for you? Has it lost it effectiveness?. I enjoy this board too and have enjoyed contributing to it. We have lost a lot of members true.
    3. Are you or have you considered any type accountability that you might pay for?. ie something other than WW.? No

I only go to the WW center to do my LT WI. Having to weigh in at or below goal is great accountability for me.

Yes, this board helps me keep my head in the game. So far it is still effective.

In many ways, my monthly fitness center fee is a form of accountability. I pay $71/month and I certainly make sure I get my money's worth. Are there cheaper alternatives in my area? Yes, but none are as convenient as the center I go to which is 2.4 miles (my high-tech car tells me this every morning) from my house and also convenient to my work. Big bonuses are the steam room, hot tub, and towel service. I rarely ever shower at home so I certainly get plenty of value from the towel service alone!

I haven’t been to a meeting in 1 1/2 years. I’m thinking I’m going to re-enroll in WW to go back to my old meeting when we visit Chicago in August. But my accountability is all on me now.

Works for me. It’s a habit. I don’t ever want to lose sight of where I came from or forget the work I did to get to where I am now.

    3. Are you or have you considered any type accountability that you might pay for?. ie something other than WW.?

    No. Not as of now.

At this point DW and a phycotherapist are my accountability partners. The therapist is every other week and it does help.

I do consider this board as one of my accountability partners from the standpoint that I check in regularly and want advice when asked for.

    3. Are you or have you considered any type accountability that you might pay for?. ie something other than WW.? I have and am considering going back to a registered nutritionist located a our local hospital. I was working with her but she decided to leave the hospital and it took them a while to replace her. It's bassically a simple balanced program once a month with a check in and discussion as to how I'm doing. I have an appointment for Wednesday with an outfit called Medical Weight Loss but it seems to be very expensive. I hate to put a dollar amount on losing weight but it kinda boils down to money in this case.

Not so much any more. I do go to meetings--usually about twice a month. Really my accountability is in the way my clothes fit. I weigh myself most every day and of course, it fluctuates. However, I've been wearing a size 32 pants (again) since 2014. When they get a little tight, that's the kick-in of my accountability program.

I have enjoyed and benefited from GOAD since my day 1, literally. I learned so much here and appreciated the tone and much of the banter. Since coming over to MFP, we had a swell in membership. Like many organizations though, it seems participation dropped way off and now we seem barely afloat. I think the percentages of effectiveness are down for me from when I started, but my needs have decreased too. As per an earlier thread (last week?), I do know what I need to do and for the most part, I do it. I don't feel I need GOAD for accountability, more for camaraderie and insight. That said, if GOAD folded, I'd be sorry to see it go but feel confident I could carry on.

    3. Are you or have you considered any type accountability that you might pay for?. ie something other than WW.?

At this point, no. WW is still working for me. I have become more of a participant on Connect, though I think I could make it without that too. I didn't really expect it but I really do appreciate all the benefits that come with life in a smaller body. That keeps me motivated more than anything else I have going to just keep working my plan--one day at a time.
