Exercise, 20 minutes or more per day, is one of the healthy habits to assure a life-long change to a fit-for-life body.
The UAC is based on finding your way to creating a thoughtfulness about what goes in your mouth; choosing an exercise per day to hopefully, break a sweat to ignite your inner metabolic fire; and to be accountable to yourself and others by sharing your daily journal.
Almost no one can achieve weight loss by exercise alone. Sorry!
Nonetheless, it's a great habit to achieve and it will make you happy, healthy, and energetic.
As you can read by looking at other member's posts, many of them have achieved great things by starting slowly and carefully to wake up their previously sedentary muscles, tendons and joints.
Start slowly and build from there.
UAC team mates who started exercising slowly, please share something from your own story...please.
Rick

yes x 3 (5km walk)
Not raining today. Busy work day.
Short post. Late night. Drone building ahead of weekend competition.6 -
In 2915, I began walking 2-3 times a week - very slowly - about a mile at a time. I was sick & weighed 228 lbs. Because of chronic kidney disease, I would have horrendous leg cramps every night I walked or stood while teaching. One even snapped a knee tendon.
I then began Pilates with trainer once a month with my SIL. I was so embarrassed I wore my regular clothes. I had lost almost all flexibility in my hips & almost all strength in core. They were so compassionate. I worked or commuted all the time. Ate out all the time.
Gradually the short walks & the Pilates - which I switched to 2X per week & then 3X per week - built strength/flexibility.
In Jan 2016 I began cooking at home more and lost about 16 lbs.
April 2017, net loss was 8lbs (regained some)
In May 2017, over 35 people colleagues, former students, parents of students, friends ... stepped forward to be tested to be my kidney donor.
In that 2-3 day period, I was forever changed. Know that you are loved by many. I honestly felt no one would step forward, but I had to try.
In June 2017, my kidney Txplant surgeon told me to walk 10K steps per day. And that my weight was ok, but if I could lose a little more...I did as she said & put up with the leg cramps.
In Nov 2017 I received my donor’s precious kidney. I was down to 191. -37lbs. Walking 10K. Pilates 3X weekly.
The leg cramps went away immediately with a working kidney!!!!
Now: 152lbs -75 to 76 lbs
Walk 10-12K avg steps daily for over a year
In the past month, I’ve realized my walking is no longer raising my heart rate. It brings tears to my eyes that my earlier self would get a workout walking around the block & now I have to find mountains to climb (and even they are so much easier now.) and I won’t even be sore.
Slow & steady DOES win the race. My son told me: dieting & exercising are both the most difficult/painful in the beginning. He was right!! I was in a lot of discomfort/pain when I began, but I kept thinking of the Ezercizer Bunny who just keeps going!
It all becomes quite easy. Really.
Know in your Heart You are Loved by Many.

One thing I have learned is that Abs are made in the kitchen! It matters much more what I eat than which core exercises I do. Both eating healthy and exercising are right for me but definitely the correct food and amount is important! I have learned this through pure trial and error!6 -

@MadisonMolly2017 @fatbambi2017, thanks for sharing your stories. You're so inspiring!
I have a tendency to hit things hardcore and go all in with eating well and exercising a lot (or not doing so, lol). I just get really fired up and enthusiastic, which can be great (yay, momentum!), but can also be a drawback. This time around, I'm working extra hard at doing something that I can maintain, making sure that I'm balancing out the walking and exercise time with time to read/write/relax because I want to keep doing both when I hit maintenance. I've started training for a 5K, and I'm making sure I build up run/walk intervals slowly and steadily to prevent injuries. It's feeling positive and very sustainable right now, and that's definitely what I'm aiming to maintain for the future. (Including the good habits that will help carry me through when I'm feeling less motivated, because I know that happens, too.)10 -

@fatbambi2017 @MadisonMolly2017 thank you for sharing! Very inspiring! My weight seems to be stuck but I reassured myself that I’m working out 6 x a week and eating right! The weight will eventually fall off. I’ve lost a ton of weight with weight loss supplements and gained it all back plus some. This time on this journey I’m telling myself slow and steady wins the race!4 -

With exercise, I am a walker. I asked my husband of 30 plus years about 30 plus years ago to help me get out of bed in the morning and start walking with me each morning. It was a struggle but he got me out of bed and we would walk each morning. Over time it become such a habit, I don't know how 'not' to walk in the morning. Over the course of our marriage, we have walked multiple marathons and half marathons together along with lots of hikes in National Parks. Having broken my shoulder a year ago, I am not in the best shape now and am still working on getting back to being in better shape. I constantly struggle with other types of exercise like weights and stretching etc. I am not a very physical person for the most part and hope that one of these days it will click for me. In the meantime, I keep trying.6 -
Yes, yes, and yes. 35 minutes of walking. I chose to walk to a meeting instead of taking the Metro, which would have dropped me off right across the street.5

@fitphoenix – Sounds like your plan is working. Keep up the good work.
@znaoiec – Sound like you have seen many wonderful sights with all your walking!
I have always enjoyed working out. When I was younger I ran but now I walk or use the elliptical at the gym. Logging consistently will help me with my weight loss and I am trying to only eat half of my workout calories back.5 -

Ran to and from the gym and lifted weights while there. Since I’m training for a half marathon, it’s easy to focus just on running, but I’m trying so keep the weights in the mix.4 -
