LAST Weekly Post of March 2019

Hello everyone!

And by everyone, I mean Meghan, Kate and Orlcam! When I joined this group in Oct ‘15 there were so many people contributing their experiences each day on every weekly posting that it took me quite a few weeks to get use to all of their stories! Sadly, while some new people have joined, most have disappeared. I too have found it tiring to log each day and stick to the 5:2 method. So I understand.

Since we’ve come down to so few postings, our gal Meghan thought of our Weekly postings turning into Monthly postings instead. Sad. But I agree.

So for everyone that has stopped here and read this today, but doesn’t normally post, we’d love to hear how you’re doing, we are a supportive group and new members are encouraged!!

Next week Meghan will start a new Monthly forum for all of April 2019!! Same drill, but let’s really do this 5:2 thing! Tues & Thurs.... Mon & Fri.... whatever your 2 days are, let’s do it together!! I’m going to listen to “Kate Harrison’s podcast on the 5:2 way of eating” again to kick start myself back to understanding how & why this really works!!

Let’s see how many pages we can get this new monthly forum up to!!!! Now, there’s a challenge...

I'm here...sometimes. I'll try to be more consistent. Hope this week is better than last for some of you...but not as good as next week. ;)

    Hi gang!

Thanks for getting us started and loving the new format! We got this!! Still catching up and briefly read what you guys wrote last week! :D Confirming that I will plan on starting the new month of April thread on Monday, April 1. If anyone is up earlier than me or late Sunday night - feel free.

We headed up to one of the local casinos this past weekend and stayed the night on Sunday night. We saw an awesome blues guitarist Sunday night who rocked the place!!! B) It was nice to sleep over and not have to worry about drinking and driving home over an hour. We took the day off yesterday. It was nice to have a little break. Ate and drank quite a bit, but today is a new day and a lighter day!

Hope everybody is well and hey YOU reading this - please say hello or ask a question, and tell us about yourself.

Going back to the question from last week's thread - one of the meals I enjoy on light day is my wheatberry salad that I make with wheatberries, fresh mozzarella, chick peas, basil, sun dried tomatoes, salt, pepper, and vinegar. I can provide a recipe if anyone is interesting. Wheatberries are a good protein filled grain and they fill you up. It is a decent calorie hit, so I have that for lunch and then a decent meal for dinner. Today will be around a 700 calorie day for me. So following more of the modified 5:2 rules of 800 calories a day.

@mamainthekitchen I haven't considered gluten free... I am not sure gluten is an issue for me and I need to eat a lot of fiber for a health issue I had a few years back, so not sure it would be for me.

See you guys soon. Have a great day. :)

Oh I like the sound of your salad meg, yes.. when you got a chance, send recipe! Pls & thx!! I forget about those wheat berries.... I’ll have to look for them. I do remember them sold in a small packet for snacking but found them salty... I’ll have a look next time at the store.

I just had chicken tonight & huge amount of broccoli. A little boring but that’s all I could manage. I’m finding the family isn’t being as helpful as when I first broke my arm..... I’m feeling like I still need sympathy!! Wha!! Wha!!

Tomorrow I’m walking by the beach so looking forward to that!!

    Good morning all!

Things are going well here. The week is progressing nicely!

Yes, this salad is really yummy. Note she calls for Farro (another good protein filled grain) in this recipe, but I sub wheat berries because that is what we had on hand. I buy them in the bulk section at Whole Foods. If you use a cup then you boil them in two cups of water for 35 minutes or so - treat them like rice. Drain them, rinse with cool water, let them cool and toss them in to the bowl with the other ingredients. This food blogger is one of my favorites. She has good healthy recipes. Enjoy!

Normal day today. Lighter day yesterday went well. Back to another lighter day tomorrow. I got this. :)

    See you all soon!

Morning, Thanks Meghan. I’m already opening another tab getting lost in her recipes! I like chick peas & sundries tomatoes together so I’ll definitely be trying this.

I had a difficult sleep last night and not feeling to hungry yet so I’m hoping this will be a successful fast day today for me. I may try making a roasted tomato type soup.

Gorgeous weather here this week so I’m going for a beach walk later!!
    Have a great day!

    Good morning everybody!

Oh yes, she is an awesome food blogger! I have made quite a few of her recipes. My super favorite food blogger is www.budgetbytes.com check her out too.

Sorry you didn't sleep well the other night. Hope last night was better. Hope you had a nice walk at the beach! Our weather is finally getting warmer here. Been cooler at night but during the day we are supposed to hit upper 60's F this weekend. WOO HOO. Bring it, spring!

I am a little draggy today myself. My back is bothering me today. Tonight I see my Physical Therapist and she is great and will help me feel better.

Lighter day here for me. Should end up at around 700ish when all is said and done and I am cool with that.

Hope you have a great day and see you soon!

@mamainthekitchen Glad your arm is feeling better. Sorry the family isn't being as sympathetic!

@Meghan509 That sounds like a yummy salad. I hope your back feels better tomorrow!

I am determined to get back on track in April. I am going to kick sand over March and move on. My go-to meals for fasting days are Hormel wraps for lunch and rice with a little bit of shrimp or chicken. I have found that cooking meat in just a little bit of butter makes it more filling and more tasty. I only use enough to *just* coat the pan a tiny bit. I also use a lot of garlic and onion powder. With the weather getting warmer, I will use the grill and cook enough protein to last several days. I use that on salads and with rice (occasionally with a cold pasta salad from Whole Foods). I like to not have a lot of variety on fast days. It makes it easier if I know exactly what I am going to have. Also, I LOVE the fizzy waters from Walmart. The bubbles make me feel fuller.

Off to do homework and get a long night's sleep. Have a great weekend! Here's to a brand new month!

    Good morning all.

Hi @KateNkognito Nice to see you popping in. I hope school is going well! I know the bubbly waters from WM, those are great! I like your idea of grilling up protein and then putting it on salads. Yum...
I hear you about March. It has been "meh" for me too. I finally got back on track a few weeks ago, had a nice loss and ever since it has been either same weight each week or creeping up. Not cool.
It means that the eating and drinking last weekend caught up to me... It also means I need to get my rear end back to the gym. Quit making excuses and get off my butt. Sigh...

Yesterday went well. Had a good appointment with my physical therapist. I made another appt. for two weeks. Hopefully the insurance approves. Silly health insurance. :)

We have plans with friends on Saturday night. I know she is ordering pizzas and she has us to bring a salad. Going to really make an effort to have a little bit of pizza and the salad and lay off all the appetizers.

See you guys soon. Have a great Friday! Will check in over the weekend when I can. :)

    Hi guys!
Thanks Kate, yes I’m in the in between stage where I look fine and am stronger, able to carry a few things, grocery store stuff... and the dog leash during walks yet it’s annoying every other minute of the day... ie like getting a shower!!! And seeping! Shouldn’t complain I suppose!

Glad to hear you’ve been losing and on track Kate, I also like the same items for a true fast day... it does the trick, easy peasy. It’s the family foods they’re eating that gets in my way.... !!

Meghan I hope your pain was lessened after your PT appoint. Hope you have a jetted tub at home!! They are wonderful and soothing.

Well I’m busy cleaning today but I’ll be making some sort of family dinner today as the last 2 sundays have been a bit of leftover madness! I may fast tomorrow. Also, Meg have you ever tried farro?? My son can’t have rice or potatoes anymore but grains are good to have, so I’m reading about farro recipes and made some. They’re like a puffy brown rice like grain, I just added them to a diced veggie mix and dumped them over a salad and the son had them ‘on the side’ with chicken but it was nice to try something different, full of protein too!

    Have a great day people,
Can’t believe it will be April tomorrow!!
