Option you may not be aware of to treat binge eating

A few months ago, I started seeing a new psychiatrist for medication management of my underlying mental illnesses, mainly Bipolar Disorder.

When I mentioned to him that I had trouble with binge eating, he was shocked that none of my previous providers had really been taking it seriously, or treating it.

Apparently there is a medication approved to treat Binge Eating Disorder. It's FDA approved for this purpose. It's actually an ADHD medication called Vyvanse.

It's brand-name and not generic, so depending on your insurance plan and financial situation, it may not be an option.

It does have some risks and side effects.

But I can tell you, I have been taking it since January, and I have significantly reduced my urges to binge and actual binges. I have lost 15 pounds. It is glorious!

This may not be the answer for everyone, and one little pill isn't going to solve all your problems. But it's nice to know that there is an option. I did not know about this, before he prescribed it.
