We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for June are below:
Monday -imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday - GavinFlynn1 (Gavin)
Wednesday - GadgetGirlIL (Regina)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - Al_Howard (Al)
Today's Topic: Travel Essentials for LTL
What do you bring with you these days to support LTL?

3 of out the next 4 weekends I will be out of town for at least one night. The longest trip will be 4 nights away from home. All bicycling related activities of course ;-)
My cooler will go on all the trips with me. My hotels all have refrigerators and microwaves.
For the 4 night trip, my portable scales (food and bodyweight) will make the trip. The 4 night trip involves much volunteering and just 2 shorter bike rides. The hotel has a fitness center so my walking shoes and earbuds will come with so that I can get in some short walks.
All of these trips are by car. I hate traveling by plane for many reasons. But when I do, I also make sure to have my workout clothing and walking shoes so that I can get some form of activity at my destination.
Long gone are the days when I would take a "vacation" from my LTL habits.0 -
Hmmmm. Well to lighten it up I will bring my wit and have my wits too. Need my wits about me to keep from crashing or falling off my bike and a sense of humor to enjoy my lifestyle too. We usually stay in hotels that have refrigerators and buy or take items like hard boiled eggs. For car trips we have a nice plug in cooler that runs off the car. We are going to the Oregon coast soon and I will take a few food items with us including a sandwich of lean chicken breast to eat on the way and fruit too. There will be a farmer's market to attend one day which will be great. The Coast is a very casual place and very cool right night so my usual workout/bike layering clothes will work a lot of the time and I will throw in a couple of items for a little more dressed up look. I always have some sort of walkable shoes with me no matter what. I even got me a pair of black shoes that are very comfortable to walk all over Paris in as an example. Time away from home doesn't mean endless pizza and suds for me. I typically have pizza slices about two times a year more or less.
I don't carry scales with me but have memorized my foods and portions. When I follow the guidelines I don't typically gain much and don't usually weigh my body. I have been in hotels that have scales on rare occasions but not my own.
I guess I too don't get carried away and lost in margaritaville just because I left home. Enjoy? yes but not leave it all behind.
I do get what you are saying in that I can easily "outeat my legs" and have to be more mindful in summer when cycling with friends etc and the social gatherings.1 -
Leaving for a 7 day cruise tomorrow AM as part of a 12 day vacation. I have decided to bring paper trackers with the plan to at least write down what I am eating, etc with to keep my awareness up. In the end, the best things I can pack is an MTBC mindset, some determination not to consider this trip a blank check, and a "keep facing forward" attitude.2

@podkey - your trip to the Oregon coast sounds delightful! Certainly a place I'd like to visit someday.
@myallforjcbill - enjoy your cruise! Where are you headed?
