We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for June are below:
Monday -imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday - GavinFlynn1 (Gavin)
Wednesday - GadgetGirlIL (Regina)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - Al_Howard (Al)
Today's Topic: Heroes
Many people find inspiration from people who have reached great heights in some area of life. Who are your heroes in healthy living?

My dad who was very active until his early 80s. Then congestive heart failure and dementia conspired against him. He hiked the Grand Canyon at age 76. He also created and led one of the longest and most challenging hikes for his hiking club that went through North Kettle Moraine. It was close to 26 miles. Very hilly.
The older gentleman that I'm watching walk briskly on the treadmill here at the retirement community. He has had both hips replaced and at least one shoulder. He also was shocked back to life 4x when he suffered cardiac arrest before he and his wife moved here. The paramedics say that if hadn't be so active he would have never survived the cardiac arrest.
The older woman, I think she is 97?, who comes in regularly to exercise. She stays very active in a variety of physical and mental challenges (bridge!) here at the retirement community. She looks at least 20 years younger than her chronological age.0 -
Currently @Jimb376mfp is a hero of mine. The amount he's lost and his persistence and consistency to stick with it till he hit his goal is remarkable.
Earlier when I joined WW back in 2010-2011 there were several folks on WW that had lost an enormous amount of weight. They've moved on a lot of them after the boards shut down and also just dropped out. As far as others in the spot light I don't really have time to keep up with any of those people whomever they are.0 -
How about Jack Lalanne? If I recollect correctly, he was still quite active right up till he passed, at 96.

@imastar2
Derrick,
Thanks. After a lifetime time of being overweight to morbidly obese at 376 I decided to join WW AGAIN in 2013 at age 65.
I made Goal (184) in May 2018 after losing weight for my five year journey to learn how to Live the Lifestyle, no Finish Line, the battle never ends and keeping on line with GOAD and WW Connect makes me aware of how easy it is to gain weight.

My hero was a teacher/scientist/ man for all seasons. I went on paleontology trips with him across country as a high school student. I remember him hiking the Grand Canyon with us and scaling its walls when he was well into his 60s. I remember him rolling around in 6" of moving stream water for a morning bath when it was 19 degrees. A book was written about him recently documenting his inspirations and feats. He did beat some of the best athletes on the planet like the heroes of Chariots of Fire in match up races and narrowly missed the 1932 Olympics. Another teacher whom we played lacrosse with told us to find something we loved and could do the rest of our lives to stay active. And of course my dad who also hiked the Grand Canyon with us and more.0

My grandfather. A coal miner. His issue with calories was very different than mine.0
