It's a start to a new week and I started it off with a 35 minute walk on the treadmill at 5:00 this morning. I'll weigh in on Thursday.
I hope everyone had a good weekend!

We started our day with a cell alarm alert for flash flooding. We got 3.5 inches in just a couple of hours. Here's a road about 4 or 5 miles from our house.

OMIGOSH Sarah!! That's insane!! I hope everything is okay with you, your family, your friends and your home. Keep us posted.0

OMG Sarah! That is crazy flooding! I pray you and your friends and properties will be okay. . . Between the wetness where you are, and the dryness where Kelly is . . I think climate change must be a bigger factor than people realize.
It rained on us on the evening of our holiday July 4th. The die hard fireworks people were still out, but not in force, which is a good thing because the fires happen every year. Duh. So far, so good. I was glad we got up early to a sunny day for a community breakfast, parade, and tent expositions at a local park. It was a sunny, cool and pretty morning, and then the rain and thunder hit for evening. We've also had a lot more rain than usual . . we must be getting all of Canada's rain.
Hubby and our daughter and her fiancé played golf on Friday, but I had to pass because my stomach was giving me fits. We went up to our cabin on Sat, and then I hiked with a friend on Sunday above our cabin. All in all a nice weekend. It's cloudy and windy here today, so I just had my lifting session with trainer, and then walked on the treadmill.
Kelly, I'm gaining motivation from your motivation, so thank you! I did some uphill running on the trail yesterday for some interval training. I'm not logging food yet either, but am doing better at choices and portion sizes. I'll weigh in on Wed. Keep up the great job you're doing to care for yourself.
Lois? Hope you're okay and your back is getting better and better. Post when you can.
Sarah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY tomorrow!! I say do whatever makes you happy and forget about IT issues, diet, exercise, husbands, and malls closing!! Cheers to you my friend. We have to celebrate birthdays . . too few have that privilege!0 -
Crazy crazy week. Quick check in!
Sarah that is INSANE!!! Doing well, just crazy busy at the office and exhausted when I get home. LOVE LOVE LOVE the activity and increased motivation on the board!!! Kelly- don't forget about us while on vacation!! Check in when you can!
I'll check in again later.0 -
Hi, everyone. Yep, we have to get busy and get our motivation going so we all can increase our energy. As I ponder having another digit on my age, I realize that it's keeping as healthy and energetic as you can that matters, not how old or how young you are.
The day started out on bit of a sour note. I may not have been a nice birthday person! And I will admit it to you ladies because this is one place I'm totally honest.
I'm not a big birthday person, so most years when hubby asks "what do you want for your birthday?" I say, "nothing I can think of now, so I'll let you know when I see it." Then I might see something at a juried arts and crafts show, and I'll point it out. I did that last year, and he bought me a lovely necklace several months after my birthday. But when he asked this year, I made the big mistake of saying, "Sure--you can get me a new pair of silver hoop earrings." I thought that would be easy. So I showed him a pair the size I like and the clasp-type I like, and I said "get some of these in sterling." He bought me gold ones a while back, "just because," and he did a good job.
Well this time, he got hoops that had little diamonds on them and a funny inner loop for your ear lob, and they were smaller and heavier than I like. And I knew from where he bought them that they were pretty expensive, so I told him that these were just not the type I wear. ((Yeah, I know! ) He said he couldn't find the ones like I wanted. I think that's because he always shops late in the day the day before. Maybe that's a male trait. My dad did that, too. But anyway, he took them back and I felt guilty for a good part of the morning.
But now the work day is over and we're getting ready to grill on the patio. That awful rain storm brought the temps down, but I don't think the cooler spell will last for long, so we're taking advantage of it while we can.
Tomorrow is weigh-in day for me, and I am truly going to make a better effort in the coming week to get my intake and activity where they should be. Kelly your motivation is wearing off on us. And I do hope that you have a wonderful vacation starting tomorrow. Happy birthday to your hubby in a few days. Thanks, Sheesh for the birthday wishes, and Lois, I'm so glad you could pop in for a minute. Hope your work settles down soon.

Finally . . a pretty good reduction. I haven't been able to focus enough to log food, so all I've done is cut down on portion sizes. I'm planning and cooking ahead for the kids visit. I'm going to have a Hawaiian Luau party at the cabin. I got some tiki torches, decorations (including a thatch umbrella from a friend of mine), snow cone machine, grass skirts and arm and leg wear for the grandkids, and I've been downloading Hawaiian music. Grandkids will participate in "painting" some of the decorations. I only got a 30" walk yesterday, but I had my trainer on Monday. Today I'm off to get a haircut and some color. I might be able to get some TM time done later. Spent a lot of yesterday baking and freezing cookies, lol!
Sarah, I hope you had a great birthday yesterday. . other than the earrings. I think it's fine to return what you don't like and won't wear. Especially when it's expensive. Hopefully he'll take his time and find something that's more "you".
Lois, I hate how "jobs" take over our lives, but it was the same with me. When I decided to get out, "part time" was pushed, but I knew the nature and demands of it and that it would never really be part time. Sometimes I wish I had the money though!
Kelly, I hope your head cold is over and done with! Your vacation starts today . . . don't spend it working on your yard! At least not the whole vacation, lol. And Happy Birthday to Shawn in a few days.
Off to my hair appointment. I'm sending you ladies positive motivation vibes!

I am still essentially holding my own. But I'm going to ride the new motivation wave and put in some extra effort to get things moving in the right direction. I have only a minute now, but will try to get back later today to chat.
Yeah, for you Sheesh. That's a good loss, and I appreciate the "vibes."0 -
Sarah - HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY - I know you prefer not to make a big deal about them, but I'm the opposite so HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Any reason to party and celebrate..lol. And I agree with Sheesh about getting what you want, though my hubby probably would give me the receipt and tell me to go down and pick what I wanted...he'd already shopped and he doesn't shop..lol Don't feel ungrateful.
Kelly - remember us over the next couple of weeks. Happy birthday to Shawn as well!!! Stay motivated...it's contagious!!!
Sheesh - GREAT reduction!! I love hearing you getting ready for the family and the luau sounds fun! Hope your hair is looking fabulous!!!
So I met with my friend/trainer over the weekend. She's now into some visual and neuro stuff with eye charts and stuff around her new studio (really like the new studio layout). She's really pushing me to let her try some things on me...and well, I'm not really open to it and she was a bit upset with me for not wanting to participate (wearing different color glasses and other eye stuff). I wanna work out... plus with our summer schedule getting out of the office before 5 is super challenging so the M/W 6pm classes are not an option (get home closer to 630 and class is over at 650) and she doesn't have classes Friday afternoon. Her girls are home from school for the summer, so that's also her family time so private sessions are not currently available either. When the girls go back to school, I'll be back on regular schedule. So I'm beginning to think I need to start looking for a trainer near work versus home. Getting up before 530 and then driving home in the evening, I'm super tired by the time I get home. Work is crazy busy in a somewhat good way. The only part I don't like is I feel like I'm more a trainer than sales contracts/closing management. We hired another new person in the design studio admin so I have spent several hours over the past week with her attempting to get her up to speed. The summer schedule and holiday last week makes me feel like I'm running out of time to get my paperwork processed timely. And Sheesh - I do like the money too... lol
We have the older grandkids Saturday night. Hoping to have a brief visit with Rhea on the way to pick up the grandkids on Saturday or when we drop them off on Sunday. I'll drive the extra 15 mins to spend some time with her lol.
Eating is out of control this week. We worked on the house installing rollouts in the pantry and another cupboard (found a lot of way expired food in very back and on bottom shelves). Overdid it Friday/Saturday and the remaining cleaning on Sunday. Did not clean out fridge from weekend food, and did not shop on Sunday. I stopped Monday night on the way home, but the store I stopped at is just beginning a remodel and the produce section was very sparse... bought bagged salad and that's about it. Ah well...0 -
Lois, scheduling anything around work and traffic has to be hard since both are so unpredictable--at least in my world. Hubby got the go ahead to walk and do light exercise at his 4 week post-surgery checkup on Monday. So last night after we finished watching part of the American Experience documentary about the space program on PBS, I drug him out the door to walk. I told him that it's the start of a new birth-year for me and I was not going to miss walking even though I only had a half hour before my Fitbit went back to zero. So yep--we walked from 11:30 to midnight with him moaning and groaning most of the way. LOL But I am determined to make some progress this week.
Sheesh, the luau sounds like a lot of work, but loads of fun. You are both so lucky to have your kids and grandkids.
Will check in later. We may even hit the pool tonight.
And I wanted to add that one thing I noticed from all those films from the 60s is that there were far fewer overweight people than there are now. I also noticed the smoking indoors (oh, my) and the wood paneling on walls and station wagons!0 -
Great to see you post, Lois. I agree with you that a trainer near work is probably the way to go. You could even do a quick change in the restroom before leaving work, get in a workout, and then head home in lighter/later traffic. And, hopefully less tired for the workout and once home. I like getting them over with . . check off the list of necessary tasks . . (sleep, brush teeth, workout . . lol) Have fun with baby Rhea!
Sarah, good for you getting hubby (and yourself) out for a walk. That's a great way to start a new birth year. My hubby will never go with me, unless it's to walk around a golf course, ha ha. If there's no ball or fun involved, he will very seldom do any activity. He works out with me and my trainer IF he's here (not Thursdays . . that's his mens golf group, hah) and feels like it. I've noticed the lack of overweight folks in old movies and news reels also. When I was a kid almost nobody was overweight. What's up with that? I don't remember anyone "exercising" in the 60's . . maybe something is wrong with our food supply.
I had my trainer today, and she almost killed me. Legs, biceps, triceps . . heavy weights. Ugh. Also, meeting daughter after work for 9 holes Probably won't walk though. The buggy sounds good after a leg day.

Thought I'd report in quickly before the work day gobbles me up. Wednesday my steps were low because I did my walking in the pool. Hubby and I went down around 8 p.m., and I stayed in the water until about 9:30. I love it when it finally gets dark and they turn on the underwater lights. We have had so much rain it has made the water cold, so they've been heating the water. So the water was wonderful but the night air on a wet body was kind of chilly!
Last night-I walked on the treadmill for about 40 minutes. The dreaded TM!! I was super busy during the workday and barely moved and had an outside commitment for a short time in the early evening, so at 10 p.m., I was still around 2000 steps. About 4 o'clock--wait for it--a terrible rainstorm hit, and it was raining or drizzling through the evening so an outside walk was not an option. Just sucked it up and got on the TM.
About the 60's, I think part of the reason fewer people are overweight is lifestyle. People do less physical work around their homes and at jobs or those task have been made easier to do. Labor-saving devices and electronic entertainment is killing us! And for women, more of us work and many sit at desks all day. And so many people now practically live on fast food, and even if we don't, what we buy at the grocery store is more processed that it used to be. When I was growing up, we had one or two overweight kids in a class. Now my friends who teach tell me that at least a third of their kids are too heavy. It's downright scary.
Well time to get back to my desk job! Keep posting. It helps keep me motivated. Happy Friday, everyone.0 -
last check in before the weekend. Great job Sarah on getting on the TM!! The monsoons are headed in, which means we'll be getting the huge dust storms with lots of thunder, lightning and rain as well. I haven't been in the pool much this year so I'm not missing too much. I will usually jump in after my workouts and before the storms hit (they usually hit late evenings for us). Sometimes I have to race the dust storms home from work. Just starting up.
I agree with the food supply - everything has so much sugar added...and when I was growing up McDonald's was a treat, now it's a daily habit for many families with young kids. I'll admit, we'll probably be stopping there when we pick up Cameron and Kelsie tomorrow night. I was good in not ordering out for dinner this week, but still probably not the healthiest of choices. I chose healthy salads and protein bowls when I ordered in for lunch at the office. I don't know if you guys remember my nutrition guy, Lance. Well, I was forwarded a Gofundme from a coworker...he had double pneumonia and the virus attacked his heart to congestive heart failure. Drs. estimating only 20% of his heart is still functioning, but also crediting his fitness helped keep that much of his heart going and not passing all together. I can't believe it. The guy was Mr. Olympia twice Mr. USA, and such a health nut and eater. Dang!!
I am still struggling wit my motivation, but I will admit, it's wearing down a wee bit from reading all of your posts so please keep them coming!!0 -
Great job with the pool walking and the dreaded TM, Sarah! We're just going to have to make peace with the TM because the weather is so weird this year. Heat, with afternoon thunder and lightening is still the norm here as well. My neighbors son and his 16 year old daughter were in Fillmore Utah in June at an outdoor conference when a sudden storm blew in, and they were struck by lightening!!! Everyone was knocked to the ground, but their son and granddaughter were the worst . . hearts stopped, no breathing. Luckily a former EMT was there and got her breathing again pretty quickly, but they had to do CPR on her dad for a long time. They were transported to the hospital in Fillmore, and then air lifted to the University of Utah burn center in Salt Lake. He is having to learn to walk again and has memory loss. She had to have her head shaved for treatment of the wound from the lightening, but is making a full recovery. The lightening has been crazy this year. I downloaded an app on my phone to warn me of lightening in the area. Be careful when in the pools or walking/hiking/golfing outside.
Lois, that is so sad about Lance. It's really unfair. Disease is so random and no respecter of health nuts either. Some of the healthiest people I know get sick. Like my best friend who died in her 50's of breast cancer. She never smoked, drank coffee or alcohol, was thin, and ate only healthy food. Taught dance and aerobics and was so fit. So unfair.
I agree that people do have more machines and less activity in their daily lives. But, I think there's something really wrong with our food. More sugar, more high fructose corn syrup etc in the processing. Also, the glyphosate in the plants, water, and soil (week killer) wreaks havoc in our gut. I wish somebody would figure it all out.
Keep on keeping on, SNS's! We must keep each other motivated. Have a great weekend.

Holy Cow Sheesh!! Prayers for your neighbors son and daughter and family. How scary!!
Phoenix hell has arrived. We are expecting 114 today. We had Cameron and Kelsie Saturday night until noon yesterday. We had a great time. Silly kids - NEITHER of them packed their swimsuit to come over! All they ever want to do when they come is swim and they forget that essential piece of clothing. We made a Target stop on the way to the house. Well Kelsie picked out a bikini and I guess her mom told her she's too young to wear a two piece. Grandma bought the two piece and a shirt to wear over...it was cute..had Ameircorns all over. She's seven...really? Mom wears a super teenie bikini. Kelsie's covers more than moms. Oh well, I offered to keep the bikini at my house and she can only wear it there...lol. We swam, played with glow sticks in the pool (as the pool light is currently broken). Grandpa got the projector going and we watched Ralph Wrecks the Internet in the pool We swam again in the morning before we had to head across town to bring them home. Had a quick visit with Rhea (and son and DIL too - haha). She's getting so big and we had fun. Only stayed about an hour as we all had stuff to do (and Rhea was ready for a nap). We got home and I sat on the couch...CRashed for two hours. I am so blessedly tired lately. I did lay out my bike shorts and have the fan set up again....gotta get back on the bike.
No meal prep, though I did buy some food on Saturday to prep. Hopefully I'll get it done tonight.
Sarah - hoping you had some activity as well.
Kelly - enjoy your vacation.0 -
114 ?!?! Lois, that's HOT. I'm glad you spent time in the pool with that temp. Also, grandmas reserve the right to buy whatever they like for the kiddos . . at least I do. Moms are way too square, lol!
I was feeling sorry for myself because the house was 78 degrees inside when we got back from the cabin yesterday. It was 83 at three in the morning outside. Yep, I was up. Unable to sleep after painting a room at the cabin and being too tired to even sleep. I don't know why we take on these projects at the last minute thinking "oh, it won't be hard, and we can knock this out before the kids come visit". Right. When we were 30 we could. Of course, it's not finished. It's an extra room above the garage which is a separate building, so it's not big deal, but we thought fresh paint may entice the grandkids to use it for play.
Started the week off right with a tough workout with my trainer. I was amazed I got through it considering the painting yesterday. She skipped shoulder moves cuz I was sore, but that just meant more legs Argh! I'm just not up to cardio today. Intake has been okay.. still just doing smaller portions. I plan to log again after kids visit is over.
I'll check back Wed for weigh-in. Have a good week.

Just quickly checking as it's after midnight. Lois, you win the prize with heat, but I'm sure I'll always win it with humidity. DC is a swamp in the summer.
Had to laugh, Sheesh, about the painting. We keep thinking we can do what we did 30 years ago, too. And often, we end up paying someone to finish up. Hubby has to watch anything where he has to look up now. We just found a small hole near the roof where the squirrels were trying to get in, and I told him that no way can he keep his head in position to work on that.
I got my activity in the pool on Saturday so it didn't show on my fitbit, but Sunday it was again too hot to even think about being outside. So I walked very late Sunday night and just got in from walking tonight. Sunday night, I walked alone; tonight hubby went.
Eating smaller portions is a good way to go, I think Sheesh. That lets you enjoy all kinds of foods so you don't crave something you've put on the "do not" list. My problems lately have been not logging food often enough, so I'm not as accurate as I should be. I can forget something I ate this morning by the time evening rolls around. And I'm also letting myself get too hungry before I eat. That's very dangerous for me. Two things I need to work on.
But if we keep focusing on making small changes, we'll get there. I'm not sure where "there" will be, but it will be better!
