We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Today's Topic: Vacation: Planning vs Off-Leash

Since joining WW, I’ve tried different approaches to vacations, some highly regimented, others highly... umm... chaotic may be the best description. What approach do you prefer? What lessons have you learned from your vacation experiences?

The only approach that has worked for me is when DW and I rented an RV for 4 days to see if it was something we wanted to buy for long trips now that she is retired. It allowed us to "eat In" most meals. Indeed we only ate at a resturaunt once in the 4 days. We liked it enough to be trying it again this week starting tomorrow for another 4 days. I will report back next week on how it worked out for us.
BTW every other vacation I have taken in the 13 years since I joined WW has resulted in a multi pound gain.

I was just on vacation, and frankly, I've had more problems since return than I had on vacation.

My wife and I were very much in tune with each other's food choices, and we honestly focused on small portions of healthy foods. We did great on vacation.

Unfortunately, coming back, I let the hectic nature of my first week back get the better of me. No meal planning. Buying food out instead of taking a lunch and breakfast. Eating fried chicken at night. Jeez...just a chaotic mess.

That said, I seem to be back on track this week. But, on vacation, things we remained focused and things went well - one choice at a time.

Back in the day I used to switch to CORE for vacations. Recall that CORE called for tracking when off the CORE list. So I got my indulgences, but they were still controlled.

I think I’ve always gone with some sort of plan.
