I love this reminder (pulled from a daily email I get re: business performance/coaching).

Discipline is a decision/action, not an attribute/possession.

But seriously, it's always helpful to remember what is in our control and what isn't. The choices we make are clearly in our control.

I read that the discipline muscle can be developed. Every time I resist the temptation to go off Plan the discipline gets stronger.
I really believe that. Over time the temptation can be resisted but the temptation is still there.

Oh for The Discipline sounds so easy but then bam! It can elude you as quick as you think you've got it. Again it's all about the decision, your why and do I want it bad enough.

Great point. Discipline is easy when things are going well. But discipline is real in the heat of things when choices are hard and the headwinds are stiff. It comes down to making sometimes tough decisions we would prefer to avoid.

    Well played @steve0mania, Well played

Discipline is not a muscle and current research in self-control shows that it is more about the usage of avoidance than "muscle power". ? Good reason to keep the food temptresses out of the house and out of view. I think with time we can divert our attention elsewhere which is the name of the game.

Use the following reference replacing the dots with periods.

    wwwdotvoxdotcom/science-and-health/2018/1/1516863374/willpower-overrated-self-control-psychology

A very interesting way to examine "self-control". I realize we may be mincing verbiage but there are some important concepts expressed here. I found the research interesting for sure.

Like that a lot Brian. Thanks.

Raises the issue of the unhelpfulness of making weight loss about our character. Weight loss is a skill set. Mostly about problem solving.

The spell check doesn’t seem to like “unhelpfulness”.

For me an important lesson was to learn, and relearn was that will power is big on will and short on power. I have found it is important for me to admit to the temptation before I try to make a choice in another direction.
