Why Smoothies?

I started WW back in the dark ages. I always heard eat your calories don't drink them. For the last few years, I've heard lots of people adding in smoothies with their weight loss program. I know some people do it to get more vegetables when they don't like to eat them. (I like vegetables and I like to chew.) Fruit smoothies are very tasty but can be a lot of calories with no chewing.

So, why else would people add in smoothies into their weight loss program?

TIA

For me, it's to get more protein. I sometimes make protein powder shakes to help up my protein intake. I have a lot of food allergies/sensitivities and sometimes struggle to get enough protein. If I mix anything with the powder besides non-dairy milk and olive oil, I consider it a protein smoothie versus a shake.

I regularly used to make them as a snack. There was some sort of WW smoothie thing that they sold at the meetings.

Anyway, smoothie mix, water, ice, fruit with a pedestal mixer and I could convince myself I was drinking a milkshake. Low points. Great after work on a hot day.

Other times I would just make it with water to add protein to my breakfast.

Occasionally I would use a point to replace the water with skim milk- yummy.

For me, it would be hard to have high-calorie smoothies and still keep under a calorie/point target.

However, there used to be a number of "pseudo-smoothie" recipes out there (or maybe pseudo-shakes) that I enjoyed as a dessert-type snack. They were mixes of ice, sugar-free gelatin, maybe some skim milk and some flavorings? Cindy sent me a list of recipes, but that was many computers ago (so I don't have them any more). You could change the flavoring additives to make all sorts of different types of "shakes."

Yeah, they were a bit of a franken-food, but it was a good way to fill yourself up, convince yourself you were having a treat, and escape the experience after only eating a limited number of calories!
