We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.p0
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for September are below:
Monday - imastar2 (Derrick)
Tuesday - 88olds (George)
Wednesday - gavinflynn1 (Gavin)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - Jimb376mfp (Jim)
Today's Topic: Starting over. You tell yourself I'm starting a new or today is a new day then it happens. Doesn't matter what it is but things happen during the day the week the month.
1. Can starting over be monotonous? Then how can it be fixed.
2. Why does starting over daily ruin the effect of starting over.
3. Is successive days of starting a new a good way to begin a habit?

I needed to start over again this morning. My Brother passed yesterday over in Alabama and we'll be tracking over today. Funeral is tomorrow then back home.
I came up with this topic because it seems that starting over is something that I need to do. Everyday sometimes I tell myself gotta start over today. It's a new slate and I can begin a new. So in answer to my 1st proposed question
1. Can starting over be monotonous? Then how can it be fixed.
Well I've got to start with a decision and yes it can be repeditive but to go somewhere you've got to start from some point and travel to your destination. So somewhere somehow you've got to make a decision.
2. Why does starting over daily ruin the effect of starting over.
Not sure starting over ruins the effect of starting over because again I gotta start from somewhere and if you got to start a journey it's got to have a starting point. Should that starting point be the next meal? Sounds logical to me so that's sounds like a good place to start.
3. Is successive days of starting a new a good way to begin a habit?
They say it takes 21 days of doing something fail to create a habit so yes if you start over everyday then you should wind up having a habit. Let's hope it's a good one.0 -
@imastar2 - my condolences on the passing of your brother. Safe travels.
As for your question, it reminds me of the saying about falling down 7 times but standing up 8 times. Never give up.0 -
I am truly sorry for your loss Derrick. I had some bad times waiting close to 20 hours to get a flight back home from NY. They shoveled rice crispy like treats, chex mix and the like at us in the middle of the night. Our so-called breakfast provided by the airlines was muffins and pound cake slices plus coffee. I hope you can get back on keel. On WW I haven't thought of it as starting over when (not if) I wander off the road. Without life-altering emotional events I have the emotion when I have unplanned for indulgences but am able to somehow get beyond it and usually the next meal or day. I did have several days in New York that weren't the best and am happy to be back home. I like to think of it as more like getting my car out of the ditch and back on the road rather than starting over. Less depressing for me to continue on the way.
While losing I felt I was off the road at least 50 times back back on the road 51 times.
Hang in there.0 -
Sorry for your loss Derrick. My sincere condolences.
Thank you for taking the time for this today.
Drawing lines that we keep crossing is a destructive habit to get into. I think a way to avoid it is to stay away from a weight loss plan that is a set of don’ts. Try to make plans around things to do.
I think the best example is a food diary/journal. If tracking no matter what is #1 priority, there will never be a need to start over.0 -
Derrick,
Sorry for your loss. Take some time for yourself and start when your able. I know you are always trying and admire how you keep activity here on GoaD.
Started over many many times. This is the first time I have strayed off Plan. Sticking with the Program is hard and starting over is hard. Best of luck to starting over and Live the Lifestyle.
