Balancing act

Hey all I am looking for some guidance , help , ideas. I recently joined MFP because I am always starving trying to lose weight and teach Taekwondo . No one has ever asked how much I eat only cut calories, work out more. You know the story and every "diet " out there , I have tried it and my faithful husband has suffered through it. We decided to try NS and he lost 35 lbs in 8 months while I lost 5. I also started having trouble concentrating and become moody. One of my new students suggested MFP. And here I am and feeling great! I have energy! I lost 2 lbs and I eat. I still struggle to eat my work out calories but I do try.
The problem is that now my husband seems to be going down the same road that I have . "It worked before" so "it will work again" and he is working out 3 times a week now with a fitness trainer and talking about cutting his calories down to 1200. He is 6 ft 2 and works at a desk. He is constantly complaining about being hungry.
We just got into a tiff because I tried to explain negative calories. He is convinced of calories in equals weight gain. No matter the work out.
Any ideas? Neither one of us wants to be in the 200 lb range ever again.

It is hard to convince people that EM2WL is the road to take, unless they are ready and willing to listen. Honestly, at first glance, it goes against everything that has been drilled into our heads for our entire lives - eat less, move more, and that dreaded "magic" 1,200 number...

The only thing I can suggest, if he is unwilling to listen at this point, is to agree to disagree. Lead by example and perhaps (when he is tired of starving), he will come around and start to ask questions. Perhaps he will see your new-found energy and notice that it *is* possible to eat well and still lose weight! Until then, just keep to yourself, stay on your path and do it for *you*!

When I first began EM2WL, after coming off of living on 1,000 or less a day, my husband was like "Are you eating again? Really???" I heard that every day! (of course, he was never negative about it, just surprised at the amount I was eating!). Now he is my biggest supporter! He is happy to see me buying more weight lifting equipment, and when anyone asks him, he is more than happy to tell them about my success with EM2WL.

For now, just stay the course, and my guess is that eventually he will come around and start asking questions, since we all *know* that the low cal thing can not last forever....

Remind hubby that 1200 is recommended lowest safety level for sedentary women.

    Is he a sedentary woman?

Additionally, lowest for safety sake to get nutrients in, in case he decides to go for the male equivalent.

Much like minimum building codes are for safety, not for longevity, aesthetics, or performance.

Does he want to go longer, look better, and benefit from exercise and perform better?

    Don't do the minimum.
