Hi! I started keto about 10 days ago, after a few years of a horrible diet (fast food, sugar, everything bad). So I have actually felt pretty good up until yesterday afternoon and this morning I feel sweaty, have a headache, and brain fog, and no motivation. I know these are keto flu symptoms, but everything I’ve read says this usually kicks in the first 24-48 hours. Has anyone else been hit with it in week 2? How long did it last for you? Thanks!

The keto flu is about not replenishing the sodium your kidneys are flushing during this transition. If you are eating keto, you need to aim for 5mg of sodium a day (not the regular 2.5). So, get some electrolite pills or have a few bowls of broth and you should feel better.

I think the poster above may mean 5 grams and/or 5000 mg.

If you do not have a medical reason to keep your sodium low/er, increase your intake to 3000-5000 mg per day (likely for as long as you are eating keto). As mentioned above, keto flu is due to unbalanced electrolytes. Keeping sodium up should also help maintain the needed potassium and magnesium.

Eat a few salty dill pickles or some heavily salted boullion/broth. Just pour about a half o' teaspoon in the palm of your hand, lick it off and wash it down with a water chaser.

Seriously. Up you sodium unless you have a medical reason not to.

Virta Health and Dr. Stephen Phinney are reputable in the keto world. The site might, in general, be helpful. I see many people jumping on the keto bandwagon without much research being done beforehand.
