What's the GoaD / MFP Group Come To

This is not a new subject.
I just thought I would throw this out since I was wondering about it. We had, have 249 people that are enrolled on MFP. Many hold overs from the WW GoaD board. We currently have 8-10 of us who regularly check in on a daily basis. Our really only thread is LTL and it's struggling to survive. There's almost no posting to and this (includes myself) that are posting discussion threads? I have been going over to GoaD's Face Book and there are previous WW posters over there that participate in that board and have some discussions which seem to be more frequent than here.
So I guess the question is are we getting close to being done on this board as a Group? I know I enjoy MFP and like the caloric input but I also use WW point system.
Are we going to survive here? Just curious.

I hope we do but you raise the obvious issues.1

I have the same concerns. Unfortunately, my participation has been light the last two months due to work demands. First, I was on-site for a month, and now I've been in our own lab for the last two weeks. And, it's going to last another three weeks for me. I am trying to participate when I can.1

New blood. We need new blood. The weight loss revolving door lives.
I did some posts on Motivation & Support for a while trying to get some new recruits. Didn’t get any that I’m aware of.
I can do FB. What I won’t do is quit.
BTW there are some ongoing threads on Motivation & Support. When it suits the fancy of a group member they post. The tread comes to the top of the list, there’s some discussion and then it fades and come back later. Some threads have 1000s of posts.
We could try that. Or just start posting LTL on the Motivation board.1 -
I'm seeing the same phenomena in a secret FB group that started when the WW Boards vanished. For a long time we were active every day but now postings are often weeks apart.
New blood is what is needed across the board, no matter the platform.
My participation has also dropped way down on all platforms due to the insanity of this semester. This is week 8. There are 16 weeks in the semester. My "lunch of champions" today was french fries and a diet coke. Stress eating at its finest. Dinner is homemade chicken veggie soup so at least the day is ending well even though the middle was pretty crappy.1 -
I too hope we don't die out. I prefer this group to the FB one (even though I am a co-administrator). Ihaven't posted on a lot of threads, due to lack of pertinent desire and/or motivation. I will try to be more open to other threads in the future. I know I'm only one person, but, if all of us do this, we'll fin much more action, and, hopefully, new and interesting threads.1

@imastar2
Derrick,
I was just wondering the same thing.
There are more GoaDs I used to know than our current roll call.
I have vowed myself to not gain over my Goal Weight so I will log in and keep hanging in but I do more reading on WW Connect.
Maybe we should brain storm some new approach to see if we can get more posts?
Anyone have ideas to replace LTL or add NEW daily or weekly topic/subject?
GoaDs,
could you take a few minutes to think any and all ideas to suggest new ideas or approach.

Just to be clear I also don't want the board to die. It's not just the fact that I check in everyday I have been a part of this board since at least 2011 possibly 2010. I have had great success losing over 100 lbs working with the group. So now while having gained about 57 lbs back I'm more than motivated to get this weight back off. I'm seeing a phycotherapist, was seeing a hospital RD nutritionist once a month but stopped a few months back. I'm considering starting back with her for accountability and guidance. So on we go I hope we can keep it going. I'm going to do my best to help.2

As 88olds stated weight loss is a revolving door. When we were on the official WW site men new to the program would find us and join in. There would always be those that floated away but there was also new blood. Now that there is no connection to the WW site we are a hidden entity.0

With the exception of Curt, who appears extremely sporadically, even the individuals who started this group seem to have disappeared.
I have no plans to abandon the board, but I do wish we could get some newer blood.0 -
I do the FB group as well. It is mostly a check in and mutual encouragement. I don't think new blood is happening. There are many many groups and new ones keep coming as old ones die. In WW we had a steady diet of new blood. I don't have any answers. My participation beyond checking in comes and goes in waves.0

I also want this board to survive. Personally, it’s more that I want GoaD to survive, and this is my preferred site for it. I haven’t really ever done the FB GoaD, even though I have FB, because FB can be such a time trap for me. Like shopping at Costco, I spend more than I planned on (time in the FB example). I’m another who hasn’t posted much in the way of content here. I too often forget when it’s my day on LTL. I’m willing to consider that maybe we should move and join another GoaD group, whether on FB or elsewhere. I think there is a critical mass needed for healthy community.1

I'm just recently back after ignoring LTL for a long time. Having the Friday weigh in kind of feels like going to a WW meeting.2

The underlying issue is simply personnel. The 8-10 of us who still generally participate here aren't enough to maintain a robust discussion. Our participation tends to wax and wane based on what's going on in our real lives, and that's exactly how it should be. The problem is when 3-4 folks have other things going on, there's just not enough activity to maintain the board. With a larger group of generally-active participants, then the board can tolerate the waxing and waning that goes on with each member.
New members are hard to pull in, because it seems like there are many many groups on MFP, and there's no major reason for any random person to find GOAD.
Instead I wonder if there's any way to "ping" members of *this* group? If someone were to go through the list (or perhaps, if the list were divided up and everyone took some responsibility for just a part of the list) I wonder if we could entice folks to come back and participate?
I don't do FB anymore (I decided that it was too much of a time sink, so I turned off my account). Thus, I do try to get on MFP most days and check in here. I don't really roam around in other areas of MFP because I haven't found them too useful for me. Thus, it's GOAD or nothing!2 -
Sorry all, I just started back on the journey in August after weighing in at 295. Even forgot I was part of this group until I noticed the high number of females on the forum sites. I'll be more active now that I'm back3
