We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for September are below:

Tuesday - Imastar2 (Derrick)

Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - Al_Howard (Al Howard)

Today’s Topic: Routines / We're embarking on the season of changing routines.

Are you a Type A person and your routine may get turned upside down over the next 6 to 8 weeks?

Or are you a B Type and go with the flow and try not to get to upset about the season of changes.

Have you made or do you anticipate making plans for these season of changes?

If so can you share what and how you'll be dealing with these interruptions in your routine.

I don't think of myself as a Type A but I am competitive and impatient at times so there is that.
My routine doesn't change that much over winter per se. Thanksgiving for me is just that one day and one meal. Over the years I have cut back on the amounts and don't stuff myself to the point of pain. Currently retired so no office parties and such. We are doing a special dinner cruise to see the "Christmas Ships" and their lights (mostly modest sized boats and yachts all lit up. Probably good food to choose from and reasonable amounts. Then again only one night. My celebratory events are just that but still less than my indulgences in the past
When I joined WW around Halloween I did in fact skip some holiday functions while learning the ropes. Now I plan for them and keep them to a minimum. I don't do all the holiday bazaars my wife attends. I lost 50 B between Halloween and Easter/Passover springtime interval. I have usually had more issues in summertime.

I like things to be orderly but unexpected interruptions occur. The thing about these seasons or holidays I lot is in my control. I can su no if I choose and a lot of things are scheduled so I can plan for them. Items do change from season to season but we're in a fairly annual routine this time of year. Family traditions have demoralised and thoughts of eating the one or two holidsys with indulgence is somewhat of a routine for me. I'm trying to be extra careful this year because of some heath issues.

So we're planning around those season plans and adjusting accordingly. Love going worth the flow though but with caution and hopefully moderation.🤞

I'm a planner and a creature of habit. My routine doesn't change much over the holiday season and like Bob points out, Thanksgiving and Christmas are just one day and one meal in my world. There will be a work potluck but that is easy for me to navigate. Also one holiday party hosted by a friend, again easy to navigate and it starts out with a 4 mile run or walk to see holiday lights along the Prairie Path!

I'm looking for time away from work over the holidays. Less time at work = less stress = better eating habits and more workout time!

This is my last full workweek of November and I'm counting the hours until Friday at 11:30am when I leave for a long weekend to visit friends for a couple days of biking and hiking!

I am a go-with-the-flow type of person, who does best when I follow a routine. When the holidays come, my routine is often disrupted, and that is a risk for me. Over the years, it has become easier to treat a holiday as just that one day, rather than a week long binge.

My biggest Thanksgiving obstacle is usually the pie. This year, I am making some individual crustless pumpkin pie’s so that I can enjoy the desert without risking too much damage.
