Rose & I, no longer have children in our home. This year we have chosen to decorate our home very simply for Christmas and New Year. When you decide to scale back, you must decide what is really special to you.
Since we have 4 grown children, we put up 4 stocking at the fireplace. The 3 kings adorn a small table top arrangement. In the past, the kings were Christmas tree decorations. We chose not to buy a tree this year.
I’d be happy to see some of your holiday decor too.
Happy holidays to each of you,
Rick9 -
Tomorrow will be Non-scale victories day.
NSV day is always a favorite time to share what is going right on your own personal journey.5 -
I stopped doing Christmas decor a few years ago and last year got rid of my last decorations from the cupboard. I love the minimalist look for my house and was doing decor because it was expected. For now I'm happy without any but I do feel that I want something unique and when I find the right thing I will start again. Most Christmas decor is based on the whole white Christmas idea which isn't what I experience because it's the middle of summer. The idea of a Sandcastle instead of snowman appeals but not the drama of getting sand and cleaning up after.6

Exercised?: Yes (5 km in 40 mins - hills)
Calories?: Yes
Tracked?: Yes
Happy I managed to get walk in today, really needed it.
Lunch with friends at buffet. Avoided everything with gluten. Roast pork, roast ham, and triple dessert. Still kept well within budget.
It was great to catch up with this group of friends. One thing I could not help noticing is how much weight the group had gained in the last 12 months. I feel concerned for the health problems that carrying the excess weight will cause them. However, I know the best I can do is lead by example and help if they choose to follow.9 -
Here's a shot of our tree and fireplace at dark-thirty in the morning. I hate that I'm waking up so early every morning, but I actually love the calm and quiet at this hour. 🎄
My NSV this month is that I'm still here and still trying. This is an easy month to give up and I refuse to do that. I'm still going to the gym, I'm still measuring my food, I'm still in this challenge. I want to be healthier and I'm not giving up on me.

14th December.
Just managed my 3x Yes, to my surprise.
Calories: Yes, under by 3 (!) but used exercise calories.
Exercise: A minimal 35 minutes, but some uphill, some stairs.
Tracking: Wasn't going to bother as I was sure I'd be over budget, but did anyway. So, not another Pass Day!
Finished my last working day this year and can now concentrate on a) myself and getting back on track and b) Christmas preparations.
Long beach walk planned for tomorrow, with friends, back to swimming pool on Monday. Lunch and visit to our new Modern Art Museum on Tuesday, with lovely friends.7 -
Today is our first major Christmas outing.
We have dinner and play.
I know that there are going to be lots of temptations.
In anticipation, so far, I kept the calories controlled but enough so I do not go into this hungry and ravenous.
I earned over 600 calories of exercise,
and I pre tracked what I am going to order at the restaurant.
All I have to do now is to execute.
Bring it on. 💪

Yes x 3
We got our tree today and decorated it. It's tiny. My tiny 3 year old says it's huuuuuge! Perspective eh. My town had a Santa Run today and I've made a promise to myself that next year I'll be fit enough to join in. No photo of our tree, but at the bottom is a little statue of Olentzero, Basque Father Christmas, that I picked up when I lived there 15 years ago. I've cheated and searched Google images for him. I also have an angel that I picked up from a market in Cape Town when lui was there near Christmas ages ago next to it mixed in with kiddie home made decorations. Lots of perfectionists would hate it all, I'm sure, but it makes me happy!6 -

My first party/reception this month. I was able to control my eating. Fortunately, I did not see anything that was worth my calories or declaring today a pass day. which really help.
Going with the principle that any eating that will make me feel bad or sick the next day is not worth it!7 -

No children in our household either @RangerRickL. Following are pics of our tree and stockings. NOW...you can all get a chuckle or be totally mortified by the following: I must confess...my tree has literally been up and decorated at least since I retired in 2016! No one uses or even sees our living room so I just continue to store it there instead of dragging it to the basement every year. I pull it out and vacuum behind it a couple times a year...but when that tree comes down, it will never be going up, again. We also have a smaller tree in the family area...and when it's not Christmas, I move it (fully decorated) next to the larger one to make a forest, so to speak! Dust? Yep, I'm sure there is...fortunately, neither of us is allergic! The Christmas stockings are hand made and put away each year. My better half is a retired veterinary surgeon and used his suturing skills to do the embroidery on the stockings. I did the easy part and sewed them together.

Exercise? Yes. 55 minute walk. Some cleaning and running errands. 10k steps total.
Within my calorie goal? Yes. A little higher than usual (1400 even), but less than base + exercise.
Tracked everything? Totally.
This challenge has been good for me. I know that I wouldn't be exercising every day without it. My weight has just been bouncing around in the 126 - 128 pound range for a month (about 5 pounds over my goal). When I get discouraged, exercise is the first to go, so thanks for having this group!
I've never been able to post photos in the forum, so I can't share decoration pictures.7 -
