Okay, it's a Monday in December. In addition to the falling snowflakes, all kinds of tasty JUNK is falling around us: cookies; snacks; and other unnecessary but tempting JUNK.
Let's hold it together and remember why we started on our healthy habits journey...why did you start?
Rick11 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, 110minutes walk, 60 minutes weight training
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes - still doing OMAD
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? yes4 -

Exercised?: Yes (5 km in 41 mins - hills)
Calories?: Yes
Tracked?: Yes
Very warm (30+C, 85+F), also tired and mentally having a bad day. 41 was the best I could do. However I did get to walk, so I call that as a win.
Enrolled daughter in school for next year. She had a meltdown at the school while there doing the enrolment (she had not been there in over a month). Unless therapy can perform some miracles, I can see her missing the first half of next year. Fortunately she had done enough this year to progress to next year.
@RangerRickL asked why did you start.
My story is because I got to 91.5kg (200lbs) and was headed for Type 2 diabetes. I had been 70kg when competitive skating 15 years earlier. 50+lbs were making me feel bad, both physically and psychologically.
I did not know HOW to lose weight, so I started to research. I had some rules:- It must be free (no supplements, gym memberships, special food, meal replacements, etc...)
- Whatever I do must be portable (as I travel for work)
- Ideally it should be nearly invisible to my family (still allow social functions, no change to wife's cooking, etc... - I succeeded so well in this that it took nearly 2 months before my wife found out I was actively losing wight once I had started)
In my first 3 months I had 3 "false starts" as I tried to work out how to lose weight within my rules, it was the 4th attempt that finally set me on the right path. There is SO MUCH mis-information out there.
After 3 months of research, I found that I needed to track what I ate. Effectively monitor CICO. This is how I found MFP. Only every used the free service, never premium (in keeping with free).
As I am competitive by nature I found the challenge boards on MFP. This is how I found UAC.
Months more research and following UAC guidelines, I shed over 50 lbs in 7 months and have kept it off ever since. I formed the UAC habits that have kept me under my competitive skating weight (and fitter than when I was skating) for over 2 years even though I am 15 years older.
I did "drop off the radar" for a few months because of personal struggles (both family and self). Back now because I feel the need to be back, both for me and for others. I still have really bad day mentally (and the temptation to hide back in my shell is extremely strong), but UAC helps me keep me in touch with at least a small part of the world.
Happy to give back to those that helped me, and help others along the way.

I had a busy weekend and didn't hit the goals but it was a good weekend! Plus I'm now back at work (although my leave did involve too much work) which gives me a better routine and my house mate leaves on Thursday for 2 weeks so her temptations will be gone as well (we are bad for each other in keeping healthy food goals). I'm hoping to use the next few weeks to get back into my routine of training even if I can't push as hard as I used to. When I'm training regularly, I eat better!
I originally started a healthy lifestyle to improve my fitness so I could do better at fencing. I discovered Jiu Jitsu which led me to get super fit and naturally started reading healthy which meant I dropped the extra weight. Ironically, I no longer do fencing but I am happy with my choice to focus on Jiu Jitsu.
A few of us went for a roll at our brown belts house on Sunday. I had a fun roll with him and a good chat about moving forward to get back where I was. He reminded me that the key aspect is consistency. I just need to go to training every class and do what I can at each session. My friend did get a photo of the session where it looks like my opponent is a Sith Lord! Can't get it to load though5 -
I'm out for the month because I didn't exercise today, but that won't stop me from working hard to lose weight.4

@lotta7e You may not make circle, but you are still welcome here.
This challenge is about creating healthy habits. The only way to do that is to keep trying.
I maintain that UAC is the toughest challenge on MFP. Once you learn to how to succeed in this, consistently, you will maintain a healthy weight for the rest of your life. You will build habits that will build you the way you want to be.
Hope to see you post more this month.3 -
PASS #1!!! Lol...
But tomorrow is another day.
Be strong and focused my friends.
Rick, nice thought to remember in good times and when we lose our way during this journey. Thank you.2 -
I’m still going to track everything though. That should, at least, slow things down a bit and keep me rooted in reality. 😊4

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes. Taking it very easy. Because I am still trying to recover.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes
Why did I start this journey? I was overweight by more 60 lbs. Had some relatives with diabetes and high blood pressure. From my research, I know that some diseases can be delayed or eliminated by been fit/healthy. I know I can do better and I wanted to be an example to my children.
I have lose the weight but I also discover that it is a life style journey. That is why I joined this challenge.
My major reason is to live a healthy life style and avoid illnesses that I have control over. I don't want to be sick due to my laziness, nonchalant or complacent attitude toward the care of my health.4 -
Over 20 mins exercise? ✅ Interval walking + Physio
Under Calorie Gaol? ✅
Tracked? ✅
Remaining Pass Days? 2️⃣ our of 3️⃣
I originally started because I had developed a problem in my left hip which needed surgery, and decreasing mobility had impacted my fitness/weight (227 lbs). UK NHS wouldn’t even consider surgery until I addressed the weight issue. Struggled on my own until daughters recommended MFP, and it’s been downhill weight-wise ever since. Had the hip done in September 2015 and haven’t looked back. I have now lost almost 45% of that 227lbs. 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼
My focus is currently on improving strength, stamina, and flexibility. I log food and use CICO as the basis of my health/fitness regimen.4 -

Yes x 3. An unplanned jog too as I was running late to pick up my daughter from nursery (US kindy or pre school?) and couldn't allow that to happen!
What an inspirational bunch you are! I'll make sure I read the rest of the posts tomorrow. I started because I had crept up to being obese and the risks that brings didnt seem fair on my family. I need to keep at the forefront of my mind that I need to make time and focus on me, as ultimately that's for them too. I often come bottom of the list after meeting everyone else's needs first e.g. "A workout will have to wait til tomorrow" etc but I'm shifting that mindset.

Yes x 3 - I started as a convert from Livestrong, which also has a good logging app. I could feel myself slipping into the great American comfort zone of being overweight and accepting it. At first the changes seemed so difficult. But I just kept at it and got my old ways back and then some. I'm far from perfect but this group helps keep me grounded!4

Hi everyone!
Exercise: Yes at PT for my hip for 60 minutes and another 20 this morning doing what I can at home
Calories: Yes most days I leave about 300 on the table and I've lost about 4.5 lbs in the last 30 days which gets me pretty close to maintenance again
Tracked: Yes, tracked it all and no cookies today

Exercise: walked dogs and took a short walk break at work.... really wanted to run after work but no energy left after household stuff
Calories: good
Logged: yep3 -
Pass day 2
Exercise: yes
Logged: yes, logged everything
Calories: No, but I'm okay with it. I holed up in a Panera this morning to do some work, stayed there 4 hours, and ate two meals (nothing outrageous, but food I normally wouldn't eat). Went way over in calories, but I'm also within a pound or two of my goal and have been at this for months, so maybe I needed a one-day break.

Exercised? Yes. 35 minute walk and 30 minutes on treadmill, plus some cleaning. (13k+ steps)
Within my calorie goal? Yes. Again ate food that requires guesstimating, but I have a decent surplus so I feel pretty confident that I am under.
Tracked everything? Yeppers!
Why did I get serious about losing this time? Early this year, one of my siblings was diagnosed with cancer that is associated with obesity. (Surgery and radiation and they seem to be doing okay.)
I was only a couple pounds above normal BMI, but I have struggled with weight during my adult life (varying from normal BMI to obese), so I decided to nip recent gains before they became bigger gains. Since May, I have gone from 142.5 lbs to about 127 lbs. I have approximately 5 more to lose to get to the middle of normal BMI and back to what I weighed about 5 years ago.3 -
exercise - yes
track - yes
vudget - yes
why? I lost a good amount of weight some years ago at weight watchers.
I went there because I had hyperlipidemia (sp?) which is to say even my blood was fat.
Doctor told me to make changes or plan on a short retirement plagued by infirmity.
In other words no fun on my way out.
Got some good hill repeats in today. I am coming up on 700,000 feet of climb since I started my Strava account. My goal is one million feet of climb. Probly get there in 15 or 16 months.
I don't know why I think that is fun.
Remember that funny Greek guy from history lessons, Sisyphus?
I should change my screen name to sisyphus. He was that guy always pushing a rock up a hill.
Going down the hill counts as fun. I rattle down it at a pretty good clip sometimes.
Today was cloudy and a little cold.
Talked to a dog walker that was close to my age.
We agreed that it is good to not be in the sun all the time. He mentioned skin problems from the overexposure in his youth. I got that too but not like getting things cut off like he described. That is probably coming for me though.
Out of my climbing playlist -
Darude "Sandstorm"
I used to hear this a lot in spin class. It is a good staple to a cardio playlist if you ask me.

Why I started... I’ve “started” using MFP quite a few times for last 3 years, but have consistently for last 3 months or so. This is my longest streak. So 3 months ago, I started again because I just couldn’t take feeling/looking awful all the time, and know the bad choices snowball for me (not exercising, eating poorly and/or too much, and drinking too much, etc).
While I still have a lot of weight to lose (~100lbs), I kind of feel like I’m still at the beginning of the process since I’ve lost 50 lbs over the last year-about 25lbs in last 3 months, so it’s still easy to remember why I started. I’ve found the UAC and other forums on MFP helpful, especially those weeks with no loss, or when not feeling like anything has changed. Thanks everyone!!4
