We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for September are below:

Monday -88olds (George)
Tuesday - Imastar2 (Derrick)
Wednesday - gavinflynn1 (Gavin)
Thursday - misterhub (Greg)
Friday - Al_Howard (Al Howard)

Today’s Topic: NSV’s

What are some of your favorite NSV’s? Are there NSV’s that you are still looking forward to you? How important our NSV’s to you?

My accomplishments on the bike and with hiking are my favorite NSVs. This past weekend I hiked 29 miles split over 2 days and felt pretty good on Monday.

2020 should have some good biking adventures including riding the Katy Trail in Missouri with a dear friend to celebrate his 79th birthday. We will split that over several days. I'm visiting with him and his wife this weekend for shorter hikes/bike rides and we can work on the logistics. I also plan to do at least a 2-night credit card tour on my bike. I did a 1-night tour in October and it was great fun! I really enjoy logistics, both in terms of gear to bring and figuring out routes. Kudos to my parents for all the big road trips we took when I was a kid out to eastern Washington state. I learned to read paper maps which is a skill that has served me very well.

    Getting rid of the CPAP

    Becoming the office fashion plate

Running my kids into the ground in the Orlando theme parks

That little pic of me on the paddle board.

The NSVs are 99%. The scale is just a feedback tool. There’s some satisfaction to having a good BMI number but it’s just the number.

I’m “new again” so I don’t have a lot of current NSVs, but I did recently run for 30 minutes in a row, and that’s definitely a NSV for me.

I was just recently put on blood pressure medication, and I’m already looking forward to hopefully being taken off them.
