We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for December are below:

Tuesday-Imastar2(Derrick)

Wednesday-GavinFlynn1(Gavin)

Thursday-Podkey(Bob)

Friday-myallforjc(Bill)

Today’s topic: Motivation to get moving accelerated by Health issues or other issues.
Have you had a medical issue or some other issue that motivated you to lose weight faster or attend to it now. ?

I now have but have to run and come back a little later this afternoon.

I have to say that the knee pain that I was having in June 2011 was finally the push I needed to join the WW at Work group and lose 50 pounds over the next 9 months. I finally got to the point that I was sick and tired of hurting as well as being exhausted. Something had to change. And it did!

Sorry I didn't get back to post yesterday.

Topic chosen as I have had shortness of breath back October early and I put it off as results of upper respiratory infection.
It continued so went to Cardiologists had 4 hours of different cardiovascular test and then upon consultation discovered Im going to bed valve replacement. Fast forward to present I going to have two more test full body scan on 12/27 then 13/30 catheterization to check for blockages. If there are Surgeon planning on doing valves Ann's blockages if any all same operation. I've lost 28 lbs since October 4th.

Motivation plus. Surgeon is concerned about my weight and recovery. 🙏

My issue was minor, but it was enough to get me to join WW. During annual physical I glanced at the doc's clipboard and saw the word "obease". Argh!

•mirror mirror on the wall. I am a rare bird that knew I was fat/obese but joined WW by accident tagging along with friends on a morning bike ride that stopped by for a weigh-in at a rural satellite meeting.

Initially I thought I was going to die. And soon.

But I turned it all around and got to losing weight. I also started a very modest exercise program.

I don’t have records but my recollection is that the first 20 lbs was gone fairly fast. But I soon settled into a program where I was losing about 3.5 lbs per month.

Why no sense of urgency when I was still well into the obese range? Two things I think. One, I felt so much better. And especially as to my weekend walks- I had gone from barely being able to walk 1 or 2 blocks to walking several miles. The improvement was undeniable.

Also, it all seemed so easy. I was losing 3.5 lbs per month eating in a way that I though I could sustain indefinitely. I wanted to see where it went. The answer was right around 230 lbs. First place I got stuck.

My doctor told me my blood pressure is high and I’m pre-diabetic.
