I crave something crunchy-- what are everyone's favorite healthier alternatives to chips?
Almonds and carrots? Other ideas?
I was never a fan of any salted snacks in the chips aisle to begin with, so avoiding them has not a problem for me. DH loves chips...and there are always chips in the house, but they are very rarely something I will eat. My downfalls are definitely sugar and chocolate. Having said that, I've been at the low end of maintenance for years while still managing to satisfy my cravings. I find sweets such as pudding/custard made with almond milk, ice cream and plain chocolate to be less calorie laden than baked goods...but the baked dessert monster still rages now and then because I love pies, cookies, cake, cheesecake and the comfort desserts like bread pudding and cobblers!7 -

Well, we had company last night for dinner and games, luckily I did the cooking so I could track calories. I literally came in about 50 under and that included the wine and brownie. With vertigo I can't really drink much, so probably shouldn't even have had the wine, but it kept me from drinking more than a glass.............LOL I also sabotaged the brownies by putting nuts on top of all but one little corner and that was my corner since I don't eat walnuts. The things we do.......................
Exercise: Yes, put in 30 minutes of hip therapy and another 15 of strength training at home
Calories: It was close but I made it just under. I think pre-logging all of it helped
Tracked: Yes, all of it and underestimated calories burned to force myself to stay under
Still only used one pass day so far. Next weekend is San Francisco so I may take one or two then
Have a great Sunday everyone!

Crunchy snacks..............I like popcorn for that. I had to quit chips cold turkey because I really cannot eat just one. Occasionally if I have room for them I'll have a couple of crackers with a bit of sharp cheese.
Basically I have the same cravings as @w8goal4life, baked goods. Coffee cake, cheesecake and cobblers or fruit pies. I don't bake very often anymore...............4 -

Exercise: yes. It included shoveling snow.
Calories within goal: no. I made food for a party but an ice storm prevented travel, so ate some of the treats instead.Normally wouldn’t have this type of food in the house.
Tracked: yes

Pass day 4️⃣. Saturday is my greatest challenge. My energy level is very low and I kept getting dizzy every time I got up (low blood pressure). Calories were over, but I managed a very slippery and icy run on the Lakeshore. People out running were much more friendly than usual, everyone was both proud they were out and scared they would slip and fall. I didn’t, but had to stop into a mall for a few minutes on my way home to warm up.3

Chips do me in too. It's not the most exciting thing, but I measure out 100 calories of pretzels as a substitute for chips. I don't get as crazed with the pretzels and can stop myself.6 -

I'm pretty sure I need to go back to not having chips in the house. With things like sandwiches I crave something crunchy-- what are everyone's favorite healthier alternatives to chips?
Almonds and carrots? Other ideas?
@cjane917
I had to admit that it wasn’t the crunch I was going for, but the salty crunch.
I did this by getting unsalted tortilla chips & using precious calories in them for months before I realized they have NO TASTE.
So, perhaps try unsalted chips. It’s really nice when they lose their power over you.
This led me to realize if I have a craving, it’s Salt, Sugar, Fat or some double or triple combo.
Chips: salt, fat
Ice cream: salt sugar fat
Chic chip cookies: salt sugar fat
Brownies: salt sugar fat
Alfredo sauce: salt fat
Cheese: salt fat
Olives: salt fat
Now I ask myself (when I have a craving), “OK is it Salt, Sugar, Fat or the Triple Whammy?” And I can usually resist the food or substitute a healthier item.
I hope this helps.3 -

For crunch, any of the following raw veggies work:
carrots, celery, sugar snap peas, snow peas, cucumbers, bell peppers
I used to cut these up and keep a big container in the fridge. Also added cherry tomatoes. There are several herb mixes that are good sprinkled on (or just salt and pepper).
Some other options would be baked or freeze dried veggies or fruit (beet chips, kale chips, smart fries, pop chips, etc).
And good ole apples always add crunch. If you have never tried Granny Smith with salt, give that a go.0 -

Thanks to everyone who responded with great ideas for crunchy snacks / sides other than chips

I totally agree that "you can't eat just one"!
Below is a list I compiled from all of your suggestions combined together:
-Dry cereal (chex or cheerios)
-Pretzels
-Popcorn without oil (tip to add water or toss popcorn with wet hands to get the salt to stick)
-Salad (spinach, romaine, carrots, cucumbers)
-Sliced apples with almonds or granny smith with salt
-Cut up apples with grapes or celery chunks
-Sugar snap peas (raw)
-Baked or freeze dried veggies or fruit: beet chips, kale chips, smart fries, pop chips
-Carrots, celery, sugar snap peas, snow peas, cucumbers, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes all cut up and mixed with salt/pepper and an herb mix and kept in a container in the fridge
-Any my own: carrots with a yogurt-based dip (greek yogurt, lime or lemon juice, dash of olive oil, grated cucumber, hot sauce or worcester sauce, salt, pepper)1 -
