We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion. Thread starters for December are below:

Topic: Last Day of 2019. Are there any Parting comments you'd like to make for 2019 ? Likewise are there any Welcome Remarks you'd like to make for 2020?

Honestly I Can't remember when I am more glad to see a year end than 2019.
Just a lot of personal issues this year starting in January and continued right up to this last day. Just a few highlights my son had a bad car wreck early January, hospitalized for almost a week then other issues with him plagued DW and I all year. I was sick with upper respiratory infections for a couple of times that required antibiotics. Just really too much going on personally with too many organizations as well as work.
Then lost two Brothers in two months this last quarter one September 8th and another one December 10th.
Lastly I had a Heart Catheterization yesterday 12/30/19 after several cardiology test since November. On that note thankfully I had no blockages but I'm still facing a valve replacement yet to come in the near future.
Weight wise I started the the year at 344.4 and ended the year at 338.0 this morning down 6.4 lbs. No where near my target. I really didn't wholeheartedly get into the game till October 4th and lost from 359.6 to 329.0 only to give up 9 lbs of that loss to Christmas or whatever else came along.
So for 2020 DW and I are looking forward to moving on from this year and except for Heart Valve surgery looking very forward to 2020. Weight wise I'm shooting for 1.5 lbs a week loss. It is aggressive but I know I can do it. I also want to get moving more like walking at least 3 times a week and do water aerobics a couple of times a week. Some other things I'd like to accomplish but their more civic and Church related as well as business goals. So there there you have it. Out with the old and in with the new. Hello 2020 🎉🙂👍1 -
Well, 2019 was kind of a semi-bust in terms of weight-loss, but I think there were some lessons to be learned.
I started the year at 143.6 and ended at 143.2. So, I am still maintaining under my official WW goal of 146. I guess that's a good thing.
However, my personal target is actually 130. So, from that perspective, I didn't come anywhere near to getting to that target.
I started 2019 by "recommitting" to weight-loss. I had some nice success early in the year, but as time went on, I "faded" and ultimately gained back all of my losses:
So, lesson 1: I can indeed lose weight. My "plan" works when I stick to it.
Lesson 2: when I don't stick to my plan I regain weight. Wishing for success doesn't work very well.
Lesson 3: When I was in the groove earlier in the year, it was easy to lose weight. Indeed, I barely had to think about it. I think this highlights that once habits get into place, they can be pretty mindless.
Lesson 4: If habits aren't well-ingrained, however, they are very easy to disrupt. I had all sorts of excuses when I stopped losing weight. Key among these was that I was traveling a lot, and I found it hard to stick with my plan during travel. Thus, once I broke my "good" habits, they were gone. I never really got back to focusing on them again.
Lesson 5: It's easy to rationalize things rather than to accept responsibility. "It was the traveling that caused me to gain weight," rather than "I didn't stick to my plan when I was traveling." I really need to work on this.
Lesson 6: I really need to figure out travel and some other areas of my food plan.
I guess I'd simply say that 2020 will bring yet another resolution to lose weight. Yay me!

2019 was "ok" not super great but I am ok with "ok". 2020 soap rinse repeat.1

We moved. A big disruption. I need to reinvent my plan yet again. Not a really big issue but an issue nonetheless.
Looking for new activity. I may take up swimming. Maybe head back to golf.1 -
2019 was a challenge, especially the last 4 months on the work front. The additional stress has left me 2.5 lbs higher than the start of the year. During the summer I had gotten very close to being at my happy weight. Then fall descended and I reverted to my primary coping method for dealing with stress: food.
2019 had a lot of positives, though. I rode my bike for more miles than in 2018 even though I didn't attain 5,000 miles like I hoped (short by 133 miles). I had a lot of fun adventures with friends while biking. I biked in 6 new states. A really big highlight was traveling downstate and riding 70 miles with a friend who had just turned 79. He really wanted to make it an 80 mile ride, but his body decided that wasn't going to happen around mile 42. So we change the return route and still ended up with his longest ride for the year. We will try again March 2020!1 -
Last WI of 2018 to last Friday (last WI of 2019) UP 3.8#. High point (low) I was down 9.4 last summer.
Lesson re-learned? News in 366 days. LOL

2019 was rough with dental issues from my first DDS visit for a cleaning in January. Three abscesses, two teeth removed, bridge snd a replacement tooth.
June noticed my leg numb, same leg that was back surgery 11/18 for pinched nerve. Now scheduled for surgery 1/22.
2020 Looking for full recovery and getting out to get out in my former social groups.1 -
So I just looked it up, and I am down by 9 pounds for the year, not a lot buts it pleases me just the same, the year was full of ups & downs, Wife retiring in July, buying and TV in August, taking trips from Va to Maine for our 1st month, then home for 1 month, then another trip from Virginia to Texas for 2 months to finish the year, Having a friend commit suicide, DD ending a long term relationship with a guy that we all liked with all the drama that brings.
So for 2020, Is this the year I finally make it to goal? Only 5 pounds away right now, so it should be doable for me. More RV trips hopefully. Other things both good and bad. God grant me the serenity to change the things I can and to know the difference on the ones I cannot.2
