I'm exercising, drinking my fluids, sleeping well. Down the hall at work is a drawer with chocolate cookies. I've been eating some everyday. Yesterday, I was listening to the podcast about sugar r/t cognitive function & Alzheimer's (that's a big fear of mine as my fa died r/t Alz. Brought in additional apple, jicama today to keep me away from those cookies but still ate some.5

It looks like I spent less than 2 weeks last year under 155. I have spent the last 9 days under 155. Woo hoo! I'm not going to lie. I'm hungry right now, but 25 minutes to lunchtime.4

Where is everyone? Youhoooooooo
@AmyRobF calling you out.
@evangsimmons170 Thanks for taking a hike to Yosemite with me today. I’m sure it will take me a few days.
Hope everyone is doing well. I made it to the gym after my granddaughter left. Steps up over 10,000. Yay 😁

Wow! Here we are, in my time zone, heading for the dark side of Wednesday.
Thanks everyone, for stats and messages. I love the re-intros, and the re-workouts, and the re-newals for February coming up. I am looking forward to getting back home tomorrow and being able to re-calibrate!
The message from @Terytha about stygmatizing mental illness really hits the heart today. I spent a good time yesterday talking with my younger niece about street people and how the chaos and craziness of life can be both wonderful and difficult, and how we all need to connect with all the scary and exciting or transitional bits as much as possible. I always appreciate the Bell Let's Talk campaign, and anyone who helps connect the correct-inclusive with the wild-inclusive , while still acknowledging the help-this-person moments we all need to try to recognize.
Look on up at the sky tonight if you can. The crescent moon, Venus.4 -
Also here are my five random facts:
1. I started my career as an aircraft mechanic
2. I’ve required all my kids to learn how to play an instrument but I don’t know how to play any...
3. My real hair color may be brown but I’ve colored it for so long I can’t really tell.
4. I love baking but nothing quite turns out right.
5. When we are traveling I like taking pictures of old doors. The bigger and older the better!
You would love one of my oldest friends! We met at New England Conservatory in the 70s. He was from Appalachian Kentucky, but was an amazing pianist and one of the most brilliant musicians and people I ever met. He has lived in Germany for a long time now, and frequently posts pictures of doors all over Germany!
And you were an aircraft mechanic!!!! OMG. No one is more important for safety of all of us who travel often. And you still have time to learn to play an instrument! Baking? You're on your own2 -
@cory17 Good job bringing healthy snacks to work. I too worry about alzheimers as I have several family members who have been affected. I have been trying to incorporate more foods from the Mediterranean diet since that is supposed to help. I have an appointment with a naturopath coming in June and prevention is one of my top concerns. Sugar is so hard to pass on! Hang in there.
@Terytha Such a good message to share. We have so many parents at my school dealing with mental health and several young children who will most likely be identified in the future. It is good to remember to be patient and compassionate.3 -
I wasn't feeling it today guys. I woke up at 2 am from crazy dreams and didn't fall back to sleep until just before it was time to get up. When I'm tired I'm more hungry than usual, probably my body trying to find energy. And the gym was packed. Straight up packed solid, which was very anxiety inducing.
But I did a workout anyway. It was definitely a pretty weak workout, not much effort on my part, but I did something even though I wasn't feeling it and that's what counts.
ALSO. Despite the temptation. I did not get fast food on the way home.
Today was a wild success with my own mental health: not giving in to anxiety or depression or BED.6 -
Steps: 4,700
It’s been a busy week learning chemistry, statistics, and new job stuff including names, cleaning the pool, computer software, etc.
More munching.
More exercise.
It’ll even out but I’m ready for bed now.
G’night!4 -

@jugar I think I'm going to be leaving the challenge. I just have too much on my plate and feel bad that I don't participate at all. I think a break is needed...2
-
Hi guys
I'm sorry I've been very absent for awhile now. I type this as I wait in my car for an appointment I've shown up early to. Life is just VERY busy! I'm studying for a master's and looking after the family and days just fly by.
So I try to focus on diet and i do enjoy reading everyone's posts but rarely find time to post myself.
Is it ok to stay on the challenge despite my lack of participation? I find it helps me with accountability.
Have a great day everyone!4 -
Steps 1/29 = 8327
Yesterday was a good day, got off early to go see my ENT but they didn't have the referral so I didn't get to see him... UGH... I hate our health ins... anyway, got home did a 45 min aerobic video... Then made dinner, we had Whole wheat penne with alfredo, chicken and broccoli... I even measured out the pasta.. On average 2 oz of dry pasta = 4.6 oz of cooked pasta...
Did my yoga this morning, and the scale is being nice to me.. still not back to my Dec low, but I will get there.. I can tell I am getting firmer though.. I honestly think the 2 days of aerobics and strength will make a difference..
I think my problem used to be I always tried to do to much, I would try to do the videos daily, or strength daily, or take my rest days as lay on the couch and do nothing days... So I think I've FINALLY learned that = I only have to do aerobics 2 days a week, and strength 2 days a week and that on my rest days I still need to walk and get my steps in, but I can do it leisurely...
So all I have left for this week to have met all my weekly goals is to walk on the treadmill and get to 7k steps...
Now my plan for next week...
Friday = Yoga, Strength & walk (8K steps)
Saturday = Yoga, walk (12k Steps) - Will go tot he park to walk
Sunday = Yoga, aerobics (10k Steps) Have a couples massage with the hubby scheduled in the morning, so I have to get up early to get this done before hand...
Monday = Yoga, Walk (6k Steps)
Tuesday = Yoga, Strength, walk (6k Steps)
Weds = Yoga, Aerobics (7k steps)
Thurs = Yoga, Walk (7k Steps)

@fourathomej - of course you should take a break if it is just adding to your "should" pile and not really helping your life right now! I'll put you on the support team (aka cheer squad) so you can keep dropping by when it works for you, and you can weigh in if you want to (but it will not count in the weekly tallies, so it is up to when when and how much to do so).
@pearl4686 - please DO stay on. Of course you are welcome and the accountability is working for you. Post when you can, but wow, you have a lot on your plate. We're always happy to see you when you have a few minutes in a waiting room!3 -
Two days in bed brought on by an evil migraine (honestly, I've never been in such pain!) mean no workouts since Monday's zumba class. I'm still in recovery - watching how I turn my head (ouch!)
But today I'm up, cosy on the sofa with one of my favourite quilts over me, looked after by my lovely husband.
Enjoy your day, Friends!2 -
In honor of the end of an era, here's a long throwback to the first time I ever killed a pumpkin with a sword, in 2015.
The location is closing. I haven't been there in a while for personal reasons, but I feel a bit sad thinking about how I can't ever go back to that little basement and kill gourds again.
I miss martial arts but I'm scared to try again after so long. Does that make sense?0 -
@jugar Thank you so much!!!2

@micki48 I have been HORRIBLE this week and so scared what the scale will say. Not eating healthy, eating too much and not moving around. 😕 No reason. Not sure what’s happening!
@evelynladams527 how is the new job?1 -
Well I’m doing pretty well this week and hopefully will get back what I gained last week.
I am doing a little running in the spot following a YouTube video.
And I have found a new low sugar high-fibre treat. Smartsweets.ca. Each gummy has 1 gram of fibre. Be careful though if you get my drift lol!3 -
Yay - I'm back home! I'm glad I could help out my dad and step-mom by babysitting their house and dog, but it is fantastic to be back in my own house. I ate all kinds of stuff I knew was not going to do me any good - boredom? rebellion? - but I'm sure it will all settle down now that I'm back in my own pantry, house, and exercise habits. Even all the long walks with the dog were not enough to balance the extra calories - so back to it! I'm in need of some of your "the week after a bad one" mojo, @Andreabroadley ! I'm joining with yours, ok?
@Terytha - what about Tai Chi? It has a lot of the moves of martial arts, the mental side too, and then you could ease back into something a bit more sword-like and exciting afterwards. I know what you mean about being scared after a long break from some intense physical activity. Fight it, though - start slowly or in a different style and see if you can set the fear back on its butt. I know you are nowhere close to my advanced years, but stepping back from things because of that weird fear is something that happens more and more as you get older (warning! warning!). I find that resisting is not futile! But it takes some effort. OK, enough sage advice from old person
@AmyRobF it is time to get unstuck! You have been fighting this "je ne sais quoi" for a long time. In February we will be doing one question per day for everyone in the whole F2F group to speak to, think about, and discuss. We are hoping that these questions will help everyone think through why this is so hard (and YES it is hard!) and what works for different people that you might not have tried yet. You have not failed all this time - but you have discovered some ways that don't work for you! That is a good step towards discovering what will work. And those things have to change from time to time - stick with it! And if you can get in there and participate in those daily questions in February, it might help. You can get unstuck - hang in there!
OK - later, alligators!6 -

@evelynladams527 how is the new job?
It's an interesting combination of secretarial tasks like making appointments for the community pool people; mopping up the puddles created by getting out of the pool; answering the phone; retrieving the mail for that department; communicating with housekeeping and maintenance for normal things like pool chemical levels and toilet paper. Oh, and my favorite thing so far? I have the priviledge of "teaching" 4 classes per week which means I'm getting paid to exercise! How cool is that?!
Of course, my new classes started this week as well as a brief visit from #1 daughter (who is usually pretty wired)...my stress level is a little bit challenging and has made my scale freeze at last week's level. disappointing, that!
Let's hope we'll both get enough rest, water, and movement soon. I'm sure we can.

@jugar sorry I'm tardy putting in my weight this week - don't get Rosie after me!
It's 188.3
I'm sure it'll get moving again soon. being in the water seems to make a difference in additional water weight. amazing how much we can absorb through the skin.
of course, baking cookies (and eating some dough-can't change *all* of my spots at once!) hasn't contributed to losing more pounds. What you said about plateaus makes sense, though, so I'll be patient and keep exercising and drinking more water, etc.
In fact, I plan to get to bed earlier for the next few days. I think that'll be good, too.
Sleep well, y'all.
@YinxFed migraines! Ugh. I've got some simple massage-type things for you to try if you're interested. It has to do with the "pain gate theory". It's effective, too.
More on that soon.
Sleep well.1 -

It's all good! You have lost 4.5 pounds this month, so I'd call that a win. Just don't celebrate with more cookie dough, ok?

@conleywoods Thx for the kind words and I hope to hear what your naturopath has to say. As much as I tell myself "the moment or the big picture", my monkey brain so often takes control. None today though (maybe by posting I'm holding myself more accountable).
@Andreabroadley Speaking of treats, the probiotic gummies at costco made with juices!3 -
@evalynladams527 Glad the new job is going well and how great to get paid to exercise. I'm sure you will get back in a routine soon and the scale will move in the right direction.
@yinxfed The migraine symptoms sound terrible! Hope you get better soon.
@Gidgitgoescrazy I love your weekly plans. They are very inspiring. I might have to get more organized and try the weekly exercise schedule.
Well, I finally got sick. Just taking it easy and watching the calories. Drinking water and hopefully I will be better on Monday.1 -
@Terytha I think you should definitely go back to your martial arts! Start off slow until you get the hang of it again. I was out almost 6 months from my Taekwondo after my blood clot and I felt like it wasn’t even worth going back because I thought I would never be able to get my black belt because I was on a blood thinner medication. I slowly went back without having any physical contact. Still felt like giving up a couple of times but martial arts is truly my best stress reliever. They bought be a pair of taekwondo shoes so I can do my board breaking and have me using this really soft foam blocker to practice my kicks and strikes. I plan do do tournament at the end of March for forms and maybe weapons (bo staff), but more likely just forms. My goal is to test for my Deputy Black Belt in the beginning of April. They are exempting me from sparring. But I will still have to do my technique, two forms, and my board break.
I hope you go back.3 -
65.4kg this week!
Looking forward to Feb although I maybe out of it for the first week!5
