SE Michigan Brewery Tour

Hey everyone, I'm setting up a SE Michigan Brewery tour with some friends, and thinking of renting a party bus. Is anyone from SE Michigan, or want to travel to SE Michigan, to partake? I think we'll meet at Dragonmead, and then hit up 6-7 other breweries. September 28 (Saturday) is the date, and I'm working on the bus prices right now, depending on the amount of people.

Cheers!

Sounds like a blast! I went there in March and really liked Kuhnhenn and DragonMead and though Bastone was a hidden gem. If you're into Mead, B Nektar is spectacular.

Just curious what breweries you would be hitting. I'm in Chicago, from Lansing, MI originally. We usually hit up the breweries on the West Coast (of Michigan) when we are in town. Founders, New Holland, Bell's, Greenbush, etc. Haven't really explored the beer scene in the SE side of the state yet.

Just curious what else is down there besides Jolly Pumpkin and Atwater (the only two I am aware of.)

There's quite a bit, actually. Here is our potential list:

Royal Oak, Bastone, Kuhnehenn, Dragonmead, Motor City Brew Works, Woodward Avenue Brewers, Fort Street, Rochester mills, Falling Down, and Black Lotus.

Next time you're in Grand Rapids, don't hit the obvious ones, especially in Grand Rapids. You're missing out on so much if you only go to Founders. Check out Mitten Brewing, who is making the best beer in West Michigan, IMHO. Also, Brewery Vivant if you like Belgians, and some others. I have a posting on this group somewhere that lists the ones in Grand Rapids. Let me see if I can find it.

In the middle of the page is a LONG post by me, detailing out the breweries in the Grand Rapids area. However, I did miss a few, so you can see the last few posts I made.

THanks! I have been to The Hideout, but it's been a few years. I am a BIG fan of SHort's but haven't actuall made it up that far yet to get to the brewery. Also a huge brewery vivant fan, but again, haven't made it to the brewery.

Gonna be in Cleveland this weekend. Most likely going to hit up Great Lakes for lunch.

So sorry I didn't see this until just now! Your list looked pretty good (although I personally find Motor City Brewing Works' selection small and overrated). Fort Street is definitely my regular haunt.

Where'd you end up hitting/what were your favs? I live thirty seconds outside of Detroit and have been to EVERY brewery (save one) in the metro-Detroit area.

We started at Dragonmead, then to Kuhnhenn's, Royal Oak, Bastone, Black Lotus, and finally Griffin Claw. We had been going since 2pm, so we needed to stop. Favorite stops were Griffin Claw, Royal Oak, and Bastone. Those were probably the best beers I'd had the entire time we were out. Phenomenal stuff. Kuhnhenn's Saison was awesome too.
