When I was pregnant, there were a lot of eating out by my office group. I decided to eat my meals with no salt and no fried, or buttered stuff the restaurants accommodated me. Most restaurant are willing to accommodate when you tell them that you have some kind of diet constraints. That was how I got out of the high sodium, etc., restaurant's food.

I will ignore the menu.
I will justify requests, if needed, with sensitive stomach (true), Crohn’s (true), need your lose a few lbs (true), or bp issues (not currently, but it will go up if I eat salty restaurant foods!!)
Order fish or lean meat - grilled, no seasonings “not even salt or pepper”
Cooked vegetables - steamed with no seasonings, salt, pepper
I will ask my friend if they are going to eat bread, and if not, I’ll ask waiter to remove it.
I will bring fruit, nuts, and/or Kind bar in my bag to eat as dessert with a decaf coffee (if desired).
In future, I’ll mention a “light” lunch to friends.
