Carb Refeed Before an Extended Fast

I do a 3-day fast the first Mon-Wed of every month and was planning on instituting a carb-up weekend the Saturday and Sunday before my fast starts. My thoughts were I would eat higher carbs before my fast and by the end of the fast, the carbs would be used up and I would be back in ketosis and would go back to strict Keto when I resume eating on that Thursday. Good idea or not - Thoughts?

Just wondering what the purpose of the carb-up would be? Just curious.0

I would eat some of the healthier high carb foods that are not allowed following strict keto like sweet potatoes, legumes, and the like and also to have some items I may have been craving since I will be getting rid of it with the extended fast.0

Sounds like a good plan, especially adding in the veg carbs if fiber doesn't upset your digestive system. Keep in mind that it can make a fast more difficult as carbs of any sort can cause some cravings and make you just want to eat more often in general. Fill us in on how it goes. I usually do LC around 100g carb and 18:6 in maintenance, keto for me works fine at 50g if I am looking to drop a few up pounds or just make it easier prior to a longer (24-72 hr) fast.

I did the carb up prior to my 3 day fast I just completed this morning. My ketone level on Monday after the carb up weekend was 0.2 and after my three day fast, I am back up to a ketone level of 2.4. I think that was a success. I will maintain strict keto until the weekend before next month's fast. I think this will give me something to look forward to each month and will allow me to make keto a lifestyle.1
