We meet here to explore, share, celebrate and (sometimes) agonize over how we do (or don't) incorporate weight loss guidelines into our daily lives. "It's a lifestyle, not a diet" is easily and often said, but sometimes not so simply put into practice.nn

This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!

Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.

Topic: Avoiding the Metal Monster!
How long have you avoided the scale or unable to use one?

What happened when results did arrive?

I always thought that people avoided a WI because they gained were foolish. I thought it is better to KNOW than guess.

I had surgery 1/22 so I have not had an official WI since. I looked on my bathroom scale in PJs and was one pound over GW.

I am trying to limit portions, avoiding comfort foods and eating normal but my routine has been changed with limited mobility (back surgery for slipped disc).

I plan to go to WW 2/27 if allowed to travel, I will face the music and see what happens.

I have been on Maintenance since May 2018 and now have to lose a few pounds. Not discouraged but just thinking of getting back to a different mindset.

I used to be a daily weigher so I am used to stepping on the thing whether I am tracking or not. Now that I am back working it, I get on 2 or 3 times a week. I track on Happy Scale App so I can see the trend line. I gave up my spreadsheet a while back. The results are what they are.

Since 2010 I've been a daily weighed good or bad. It's just a number or is it? I recently tried to make my WI on Friday to Friday to Friday. I think I made it one day skipping then curiosity got the best of me and as habit would have it I jumped right back on the scale. At the suggestion of my nutritionist I made an effort to not weigh daily but I'm too old and to set in my routine to break loose from this habit. Mentally I just take it as it is knowing that the body does it's thing.

So the only time I miss is traveling or most recently in the hospital on 1/22/20 with pacemaker surgery same day @jimb376mfp was in the hospital. So for me I like the daily weighing and just gonna keep it up.🙂

I never fully avoid the scale. I don't weigh every day, but I do weigh 3-4 times a week. That said, there are mornings when I know I'm going to have a *kitten* weigh-in, so I'll ask myself, "Why bother?" Sometimes I go ahead and weigh in; sometimes I don't. But, I rarely go more than a day or two without stepping on the scale.

I also use Happy Scale, specifically for the trend line. Need data points to establish a trend line. So, that's a big motivator for me to weigh in, whether I want to or not.

Not sure that I ever avoided the scale. There was awhile when I didn’t own one. But I did when I started the march above an already hefty 228 lbs I did.

I weighed regularly while putting on about 55 more pounds to 285. It would go like this- I get into a big eating phase. Say pizza several nights in a row. Or one of my famous dinners out with the guys. 4-5 hours of eating and drinking. Next day I’d get on the scale. Maybe nothing, maybe 1 lb. Next day maybe down a lb. “Guess I dodged that bullet.”

Then about 3-4 days later 3-4 lbs show up “out of nowhere.” I wasn’t hiding from the scale, I was desensitized to it. I was in denial as to the whole morbid obesity project.

Weigh daily, except if away. Have for at least 11 years.

My old one became unreliable early in weight loss. As I got close to goal I bought the same professional model WW uses (without the computer link) on sale. I weigh daily.

I weigh daily when at home. Short trips (1-2 nights away) I don't bother bringing a scale. Longer trips I have a travel scale that I pack. 4 weeks to my spring break and I will be away from home for 8 nights.
